Guest guest
My Divine Balaguruji: Everyday when i read your posts in the forum . i get a kick out of it knowing what a great Scholar and sincere Sadhak you are ! This is all due to purva janma phala only as Sadaji pointed out in his 'welcome ' address to you. May the Light shine upon you and through you on others ! now , i would like to ask aestion on 'yoga nidraa'? have you heard of this technique which is practiced by the Bihar school of Yoga and also used in 'vipasana' meditation ? does it have any place in Vedanta ? It is said , yoga nidraa is a state of rest and relaxation but can never take the place of deep sleep ? balaguruji, i am all ears . thanx , once again for all ur wonderful input on a variety of subjects . You are this year's wonderful 'discovery for the advaitin list . love and regards ps : this quote i saved or you on Avidyaa anitya-ashuci-duhkha-anaatmasu nitya-shuci-sukha-aatma-khyaatir avidyaa avidyaa is an identity with a self which is not the self; with happiness in what is actually suffering; with purity in what is really impurity; and permanence in what is really impermanent. It is said , yoga nidraa is a state of rest and relaxation but can never take the place of deep sleep ? ============================== mAtA sAshTAnga danDa praNAmaH !, Yes, I have heard about yOga nidrA. It is said to be similar to the (conscious)deep sleep. The ultimate goal of vedAnta being, complete removal of false knowledge through nidhi dhyAsana, it may decry such things like yOga nidrA as a self-hypnotism or deviation from the right path in the middle. But IMHO, we should better not compare the practices and terms of different philosophies. It is a common attitude of every philosopher to play with the terms. A vedantin would say, " Chitta vritti nirOdha doesn't lead to mOksha because it is caused even by Sleep etc. " But those who through intense uninterrupted sAdhana have practiced the chitta vritti nirOdha consciously and attained to the highest thoughtless state will alone know what it is but not he, who just speculates about it! One may say, nirvikalpa samAdhi is useless, and that there is a higher samAdhi than that. But who knows? That highest samAdhi itself might be named as nirvikalpa by the realized ones! Terminology often fails to describe the experiences. After all there cannot be two-two realizations, one for a Buddhist, one for an advaitin, one for a yOgi, one for a vishishtadvaitin etc. Neither can anyone declare that the advaitin alone realizes the truth. nAyamAtmA pravachanEna labhyO na mEdhayA na bahunA SrutEna ! yamEvaisha vRiNutE tEna labhyastasyaisha AtmA vivRiNute tanUM svAm!! We cannot peep into somebody's experience to judge whether it is authentic or not. Just like the reality of universe doesn't change according to the theories given by different physicists, similarly, the Truth is One and the knowers of it call it by different names! Surely unto Him belongs eternal peace, who has gone beyond bigotry and fundamentalism; unto none else, unto none else! !! SrI Adi SankarArpaNamastu !! P.S. This post is not directed at any specific individual or any particular philosophy. All that I wrote is only my individual opinion. Pardon me if it seems to be offensive.
