Guest guest
Michael dearest : To me the whole Universe is a mystery what to speak of a word like 'bAdhA' ? do you seriously believe that an Entire philosophy depends on understanding a single word ? If you want to understand a timeless philosophy like Advaita , you need a 'Guru' not a dictionary or a thesarus or even knowledge of Samskritam! If an Englishman like Ken knight ji could master the finer nuances of the Saskrit language and understand the 'vedas' , there is still 'hope ' for all of us . Anyway , since my post , i have also posted Subbuji's views on the subject and bhaskar prabhuji has also added hs own views on 'bAdhA' ! in Facyt , a colleague of mine argued with ne yesterday that there is no such word as 'sublate ' in the English language . She argued with me saying i was mistaking 'sublimate' for 'sublate 'Then when i showed the word 'sublate' in the dictionary - she saw the meaning of the word sub¡¤late¡¤ (s & #601;b l¨¡t¡ä) transitive verb Logic to deny, contradict, or negate and then : SUBLIME 1 b archaic : to improve or refine as if by subliming or to divert the expression of (an instinctual desire or impulse) from its unacceptable form to one that is considered more socially or culturally acceptable Then , my friend was embarassed ! i told her then THAT the human tendency is always contradict' something they are unfamiliar with! she smiled! no doubt , my frienD's ego was 'sublimated' ! ANYWAY , THE 'Language of Truth is simple ' why fret and fume ober a word like 'bAdhA' ? Guest guest
Hi Michael, I don't know - why do some people find it puzzling? After all, at the level of vyavahAra, when name and form are mistaken for reality and self-ignorance is generally the case, why should it be at all surprising that confusion reigns? Such clarifications, discussions and disputations about meanings etc. are surely inevitable? They do not alter the reality one iota. And they are often necessary in order to dispel that self-ignorance. Best wishes, Dennis advaitin [advaitin ] On Behalf Of ombhurbhuva 08 October 2007 12:14 advaitin bAdha Namaste to all, Ah, if it only were the case that the ostensible definitions of words were sufficient for an understanding of what their purport was in sentences then the holding of many views would be abolished and each seeker would be given an authorised dictionary as a guide to knowledge. Alas it is not so; venerable and sincere Sanskritists dispute mightily about the meaning of expressions and even within the sacred grove of Advaita dissent occurs. Why do some find this puzzling and even a scandal? Best Wishes, Michael.
Guest guest
Why do some find this puzzling and even a scandal? It's neither puzzling nor scandal...it happens in every area of life where there is more than one possible opinion. And where does THAT condition NOT exist?? If you discover such and area, please let me know!! This condition just tells me that there are no ultimate truths that can be talked about. Ultimate truth can only be subjective and not applicable to anyone else nor to " the world " . One man's mythology is another man's religion... ______________________________\ ____ Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell. http://searchmarketing./
