Guest guest
Nairji : Thank you for a lovely post coming straight from the heart of a bhakta jnani. i really enjoyed reading these words again and again - full of meaning and depth ... Nairji writes : (The reconciled one remains untouched and steady in the presence of both and with good and evil too, for he knows he, as Truth, is the secret of the maze. Vijaya Dashami is truly his.) Who reveals the 'Truth' is the question that haunts many of the sadhaks .... Here it is very important to stress the 'anugraham' or Grace of the Goddess - it is She who helps us to conquer all the vrittis and it is bt her Divine grace and Kataksham alone , the sadhak attains Success ! As soon as you mention Success , the sanskrit word 'jayam' or 'vijayam' comes to mind ! one of the names of Devi is OM jayAyai namaH || jayA - vijaya svarUpiNi, jaya gosha svarUpiNI tasmAt jayA. In any human endeavor, varied capability limitations contribute to difficulty in achieving success. In our culture we seek divine grace to over come this defect and give us the wisdom and skill to accomplish all dharmic pursuits. We seek 'jaya' or victory over our limitations, both internal and external. Goddess Durga represents the destruction of obstacles and the victory that follows it. Tantras describe a specific form of Durga called Jaya Durga. She is visualized as dark in color terrifying her enemies by her looks and riding on a lion with celestial weapons. She is evoked in kavacha stotra for over all protection. jayadurgA ghanashyAmA pAtu mAM sarvato mudA . mAyAbIjAdikA chaiShA dashArNA cha tataH parA . uttaptakA~nchanAbhAsA jayadurgA.a.anane.avatu . She is also mentioned as the preceding deity of jAlandhara pITha and the very life breath of Kamesha. She is worshipped by manmatha desiring to conquer the entire universe. She is full of love for her beloved. The string of names that occur in LS with jayA (377), when considered as a whole refer to the same descritions seen in Tantras. || kAmeshvaraprANanADI kR^itaj~nA kAmapUjitA shrR^ingArarasasampUrNA jayA jAlandharasthitA || Words like ataH, OM, tat sat, jaya, shrI etc. are called ma~ngaLa shabdha or auspicious words/sounds. Just by uttering 'jaya' one destroys evil. Thus many hymns salute Durga with 'jaya jaya' shabdha. She is of the very word 'jaya'. jaya jaya japya jayejaya shabda parastuti tatpara vishvanute …. jaya jaya he mahishhaasuramardini ramyakapardini shailasute .. Let thy victory be sung, the entire universe is singing thy praise extolling thy victory. Victory to thee ! Victory to thee. After the annihilation of furious demons, devas sing her victory. Any victory actually belongs to her alone as she is the potency behind them all. OM jayAyai namaH ( this post was written by Aravind whose i.d. is 'seeksha' ! i liked it so much that i wanted to share it with you all ! This is post number 9145 ppearing in our sister group 'ambaal' - it is nama 107.8) ) The point is without ambaal's grace - NO 'JAYAM' CAN BE OURS! SHE IS MOKSHA DATRI ! It is goddess Uma in Kena upanishads who shows the divine 'light' to Agni , vayu, indra , etc etc etc ..... no wonder A great vedanti like ADI SHANKARA BHAGVADAPADA seeking the blessings of the Divine mother in all his hymns on devi ! in fact , Sunderji was right on target when he quote these beauitiful lines from Adi shankara bhagvadapada's Apradha kshampana stotram Na mantram no yantram thadapi cha na jane sthuthimaho, Na chahwanam dhyanam thadapi cha na jane sthuthi kadha, Na jane mudrasthe thadapi na jane vilapanam, Param jane matha thwadanusaranam klesa haranam. 1 Neither I know mantra nor nor your praise, Neither I know how to call you, nor meditate nor praise you, Neither I know mudras nor how to cry to you, But I know that by obeying you, I would get rid of all problems ( our member Shri Ramachander's translation) It is through Devi's infinite mercy and grace only one can achieve Success in any Spiritual pursuit! Even the great Lord Shiva is always begging for 'jnana biiksha' from his beloved wife , Annapurna! annapUrNe sadApUrNe shaN^karaprANavallabhe | j~nAnavairAgyasiddhyarthaM bhikShAM dehi ca pArvatI yes! Mata parvati is the 'one' who will give you that 'Jnana' !
