Guest guest
I had not seen any posting from Shri Stig Lundgren before, but his recent postings are evidence not only of his erudition in vedAnta but also of his humility. He exemplifies the saying, 'vidyA dadAti vinayam'—learning confers (or should confer) humility. It is very nice to see a person with a Norwegian or Swedish sounding name showing so much interest and proficiency in vedAnta. (I know French and German). I would request him to contribute more often. I felt impelled to write this even though it does not fall strictly within the scope of this forum. Guest guest
Shreeman Sastri gaaru - PraNAms While endorsing your timely tributes to Stig Lundgren, I am taking pride to claim that I have known Stig for very long time. I happened to have a conference in Stockholm (2002?)and he made all the hotel arrangements for me and took me out everyday to some Indian Restaurant or the other, and had hours of sat sangh discussing various topics of Vedanta. I barely attended my technical conference (on Fatigue!) since Vedanta discussions were much more refreshing. He organized a talk for me in an Indian Temple in Stockholm and we had traditional south Indian Dinner there after the talk. He should be getting his Ph.D. in Philosophy pretty soon, and is an eligible bachelor looking for girl (preferably Indian but who has similar interests in the pursuit of Vedanta - hopefully not a dvaitin!)- By the by, this is not a matrimonial advertisement, but I do not think Stig will mind if he finds a good match for him. He has an Indian name - Shivashankar given by his guru. He took me to his apartment and he does his daily puja and sandhyaavanadanam - A very versatile person to be associated with. I have met many people through this advaitin list - one of course is our chief moderator, Dennis Waite - he and his wife hosted me when I visited them. I, of course met, Prof. VK and his wife through this list and Prof. VK also organized a talk for me in the Kuppuswami institute in Madras, while he was in IIT, Madras on sabbatical. I met him afterwards many times in Washington. Another person I recall is V. Chandran, an young energetic man, who is always eager to debate with me on advaita Vedanta, whenever we had a chance to meet (he is fascinated by Vijnaana vaada) and of course Shree Subbu in Bangalore, who is a bundle of knowledge, and many others. And of course you, sir - Shree Sastri gaaru - (for those who may not know - Sastri gaaru has written extensive commentary on NaaraayaNiiyam - which was published by Chinmaya Mission) and Srimati Lakshmiji (I have to find out if she is still in Madras or not). It is privilege to be associated with so many great souls with similar interests and in that sense this advaitin list is an exemplary medium providing excellent vehicle for sat sangh. We are also blessed with moderators who are authors of Vedanta books. I am reminded of the great Tyagaraja Keerthana in Telugu - yendaro mahaanubhaavulu, andariki vandanaalu - there are many many great souls and my prostrations to all of them. Hari OM!
