Guest guest
Mariusz Writes : ( An interesting outcome of my temporary return to Catholicism was a personal discovery that almost all the sayings of Jesus recorded in the Gospels make the best sense when interpreted in advaitic terms!) Wow! My polish friend ! Spoken like a true jnani ( the enlightened one) i have always maintained in this forum and others that 'Advaita' is not a monopoly of the Hindus ! in fact , you can find the wisdom of non-duality ( Advaita) in Sufism, Zen Buddhism and even in Taoism! MAY I NOW SHARE THIS WITH YOU ALL ? The Gospel According to Thomas is considered nondual, nearly Eastern in tone. Consider the following: " Jesus said to his disciples: Make omparison to me and tell me who I am like. Simon Peter said to him: Thou art like a righteous angel. Matthew said to him: Thou art like a wise man of understanding. Thomas said to him: Master, my mouth will not be capable of saying whom thou art like. Jesus said: I am not thy Master, because thou hast drunk, thou hast become drunk from the bubbling spring which I have measured out. And he took Thomas, he withdrew, he spoke three words to him. Now when Thomas came to his companions, they asked him: What did Jesus say to thee? Thomas said to them: If I tell you one of the words he said to me, you will take up stones and throw at me; and fire will come from the stones and burn you up. " And this portion of the Gospel According to Thomas reveals how glimpses of Truth enrage people and how Truth consumes them anyway. Because that is all there is. http://nonduality.com/faq.htm but by the same token, i do have to concede one point to Rishiji ! We are discussing traditional vedanta in this group and therefore rishiji is quite right when he says (Clearly, Vedantic tradition does say that karma and rebirth are worth understanding and can help in gaining self-knowledge.) This is the point i was also trying to make earlier in my question to dennisji ! We are all not ramana maharishis that we can jump into the state of of 'I am that I am ' right away ! Have you read Rumi, the sumfi mystic ? he also says " " ...By day I praised you and never knew it. By night I stayed with you and never knew it. I always thought that I was me--but no, I was you and never knew it.... " so , we have to drop many veils before coming to this understanding of who am I ? but , whether one like it or not Karma and Reincarnation are hinduism's unique contribution to world religious thought ! My divine mother 'maya' is also hinduism's greatest contribution! love and regards
