Guest guest
Dear Vaibhav : You addressed your post to Dennisji but the learned member who responded to your post is none other than Sri Ananda wood-ji ! Bioth Dennis ji and anandaji are moderators of this list . Dennisji is the chief moderator 2007 . Dennisji lives in England and has published quite a few books , the most recent being 'Back to Truth' available at amazon.com. Anandaji lives in Pune, Maharashtra . Anandaji is the disciple of sri Atmananda (1883-1959) .If you would like to read about Sri Atmananda , pl go to http://www.bluedove.org/Advaita_Atmananda.htm - 16k If you search the archives , you will find a series of articles by Sri Anandaji on his Sri ATMANANDA'S PHILOSOPHY. Sri Atmananda is the author of many books . Incidentally , sri Anandaji has recently published a book called 'ways of Truth'. It is also available at dc printers. The reason i like sri anandaji's messages are they are written in simple language with very few quotations from scriptures but at the same time they are very profound . It takes many readings to understand what sri anandaji is trying to convey . i , for one , really liked his take on 'karma' - if he would kindly pen his views on 'reincarnation' , it would be an icing on the cake ! i remember Anandaji writing in one of the messages on the group board that " that no transformation of the world -- nor even of personality in world -- is essential to realization. A change of perspective alone is truly needed. " Guess what ! it is so difficult to change perspectives because we are so wedded to 'personalities and their perspectives' - we want to know what Shankara said or what SSS said instead of independently thinking on our own ! This is called 'conditioning' anyway .... advaitin , vaibhav khire <vskhire wrote: > > Dennisji, > Firstly, thank you for addressing my question. Guest guest
Oh my god! I dont know why or how I got confused between the two names. I think I must have read some post by Dennisji before and then replied to this post. I read Anandaji's post several times to completely assimilate the message before replying but didnt read the name of the sender and unconsciously thought it was Dennisji. Anyway I apologize to both of you, and thank you very much Bhaginiji for pointing it out. Of course, I respect both equally and hope to learn from both. Like Niveditaji said, it would be really good if they would pen down more thoughts here. Guest guest
oh! Vaibhav-ji! don't worry ! Both anandaji and dennisji are mature in their understanding and will not mind such 'freudian' slips! smile :- ) please read anandaji 's latest post on Karma and you will get a better idea of what he is trying to convey! a very interesting discussion is going on in the list whether Jnani knows he is a jnani after he geta Alzhemeir's ( humorously described 'what is a name ' DISEASE ) Sadaji has responded beautifully to Dennisji post . May i also in this context quote a verse cited by sri Anandaji in post number 37301 ! Anandaji states : " In a passage from the Chandogya Upanishad, 8.3.2, the subtle causality of world is described through the metaphor of an agricultural field whose changing manifestations distract from a shining treasure that is to be found. tad yathApi hiraNya-nidhiM nihitam akShetraj~nA upary upari sa~Ncaranto na vindeyur [Those who do not rightly know a field where golden treasure lies keep passing over it, but may not find it.] evam eve 'mAH sarvAH prajA ahar ahar gacchantya etaM brahma-lokaM [so also all these creatures entered here, day after day, in this world where all-completeness is both shining goal and ever present ground.] na vindanti anR^itena hi pratyUdhAH [They do not discover it; for they are kept distracted, by unreality.] In this passage, the distracting 'unreality' of world is represented by the changing contours, plants, flowers and fruits manifested by the field. The shining treasure is the changeless reality of underlying ground -- which is entirely complete, immediately underfoot. Each creature seen moving in the field is not a true knower of the field, but only a changing manifestation of the field causality. The only true knower of the field is the ground itself, invigorating and supporting each creature and everything else that arises from it. " Vaibhavji , anyone can quote scriptures - i do too ! but , while quoting scriptures one must truly understand what the scriptures are trying to convey! Chandogya upanishads was a favorite upanishad of my gurudeva and he said ii is enough if one reads and understands this upanishad only! recently Sadaji , asked us to read chapter 6 of this upanishad! Chapter 6 is one of the best where Uddalaka muni explains 'Tat twam asi ' mahavakya to his son Svetaketu with the help of mundane examples! ! but Sadaji , which psarticular verse were you referring to in the context of jnani and alzheimer's ? is this the one ? if not , pl clarify! ( " Around a dying person afflicted with illness, my dear, his relatives gather and ask: `Do you know me? Do you know me?' He knows them as long as his speech is not merged in his mind, his mind in his prana (breath), his prana in heat (fire) and the heat in the Highest Deity. " But when his speech is merged in his mind, his mind in his prana, his prana in heat and the heat in the Highest Deity, then he does not know them. " Now, that which is the subtle essence—in it all that exists has its self. That is the True. That is the Self. That thou art, Svetaketu. " " Please, venerable Sir, give me further instruction, " said the son " So be it, my dear; " the father replied. ) Sadaji , pl help us! love and regards advaitin , vaibhav khire <vskhire wrote: > > Oh my god!
