Guest guest
My most respected Shastriji : i am glad you mentioned about Bhagwan Ramaa's cow Smt. Lakshmi ! Shastriji , the Great Jnani that Bhagwan Ramana is , he treated Cow Lakshmi ( the ashrama cow) in the same way that he treated his own mother Alagamma ! Both the Cow Lakshmi and Bhagwan Ramana's mother attained NIRVANA at bhagwan's hands ! If one visits Sri Ramanashram today , one will see a tomb for Lakshmi which means that Lakshmi did not die an ordinary death ; She verily attained Samadhi! This may come as a surprise to many! But bhagwan treated all the animals in the ashram as if they were Humans! but in India today , you see how the Sacred cow ( GO ata) is treated so cruelly - One look at the 'cows' in india tells the sad story of neglect and inhuman treatment ! Why do we call the Cow - Go Mata ( a mother cow) ? Did you know that we hauman beings have seven mothers according to ancient sages and seers ? ) The mother who gave us birth 2) The Obstetrician Or mid wife) us 3) The Wife Of the King 4) The wife of a Priest 5) The wife of a teacher 6) The Earth 7) cow Needless to say , we are no longer living in vedic times where Cows and brahmins were worshipped ! Even Mother Earth is subject to so much tyranny in the name of environmental pollution !in every yagna , it was customary to show reverance to cow and the brahmins in the olden days! The Bovine Cow was considered 'Divine' FOR MANY REASONS! a SANSKRIT SLOKA GOES LIKE THIS : " SARVE DEVAAH STHITA DEHE SARVA DEVAMAYEEHI GAOU " The above shloka means that all the deities dwell in the body of a cow. Therefore the cow itself is as holier, as THE DEITIES ! PLEASE HGO TO THE FOLLOWING LINK TO READ ABOUT THE VARIOUS DEITIES THAT LIVE IN A COW'S BODY! http://www.urday.com/cow.html - 21k - Cached Another name for the holy cow is 'kamadhenu' -the wish fullfilling ! Our Go mata is a valuable resource ! Her milk is supposed to be the most nutritious . Even the 'urine' of the cow has some medicinal properties . Not only that cow dung is used as a 'manure' in rural households ! It is therefore a pity that India where cow is considered so sacred equivalent to a Mother , Cows receive such a cruel and inhuman treatment ! Mahatma Gandhi said " Cow protection is the gift of Hinduism to the world. And Hinduism will live as long as there are Hindus to protect the cow. Hindus will be judged not by their tilaks, not by the correct chanting of mantras, not by their pilgrimages, not by their most punctilious observance of caste rules but by their ability to protect the cow ( Gandhi 1954). " HOW CAN WE EVER THINK OF CUTTING THE HAND THAT FEEDS US ? Cows are to be respected and revered and protected ! the second verse of Sri Suktham goes like this : Hr & #299;m Tám ma ávaha játavedo lak & #347;hm & #299;m anapa gámin & #299;m Yasyám hira & #326;yam vindeyam gám a & #347;vam puru & #347;hán aham|| (2) O Agni! Invoke for me that unfailing Lakshmi, blessed by whom, I shall win wealth, cattle, horses and men. Yes! Cattle was considered 'wealth' in the olden days. So there is a lot to be said in favor of treating Cows with love , respect and honor ! if you love Gopala ( the cowherd) , how can you not love his constant companions - the 'cows' ? When you worship , the cows , you are also worshipping the cowherd! Guest guest
Dear Smt. Bhaginiji: In the light of your comments, the following sloka from Gita Dhyanam is very appropriate: " Sarvopanishado gaavo dogdhaa gopaalanandanah; Paartho vatsah sudheer bhoktaa dugdham geetaamritam mahat. " 4. All the Upanishads are the cows; the milker is Krishna; the cowherd boy, Partha (Arjuna), is the calf; men of purified intellect are the drinkers; the milk is the great nectar of the Gita. Shri. Ramachandranji stated in his mail # 37813 how Gita is important for our inner purification (anTha karNa suDddhi). The above sloka makes aware that the study of Gita will grant us the Atma jyanam.
