Guest guest
Pranaam Members, I would like to know why such an important treatise, like Ashtavakra Gita is not considered a pramana for this group. Each verse in it is pregnant with meaning and conveys, as what I think to be, the true spirit of Advaita. Do members have any opinion as to its history, and why it is not quoted by Shri Adi Shankara, or his disciples? Regards Ramakrishna
Guest guest
Namaste Sri Ramakrishnaji, Ashtavvakra Gita is more of the nature of a Prakarana Grandha and the Pramana dealt with in it is Upanishadic i.e. Shabda. with warm regards Mani uramakrsna <ramakrsn wrote: Pranaam Members, I would like to know why such an important treatise, like Ashtavakra Gita is not mepage at:http://www.advaitin.net/ To Post a message send an email to : advaitin Messages Archived at: advaitin/messages Change settings via the Web ( ID required) Change settings via email: Switch delivery to Daily Digest | Switch format to Traditional Visit Your Group | Terms of Use | Un Recent Activity 12 New Members 1 New Files Visit Your Group Finance It's Now Personal Guides, news, advice & more. Opinion is that it was written sometime during 11th century. Shankara could not have referred to it. Also of interest is Shankara does not refer to shreemad Bhagavatam too. Rumor is that it was composed during 9-10 Century. Uddava giita, is from Bhagavatam. The concluding chapters are full of advaita. Some aacharyas have referred to some puraanaas that not many other achaaryaas have referred and also not evn available today. We take the 10 major Upanishads, Bhagavad-Gita Gita and Brahmasuutras as pramaaNa since all aacharyaas have commented on them or quoted from them in one way or the other. Hari Om!
