Guest guest
what a wonderful set of quotations our beloved Sunderji has given on the group page . i am also delgted to see the national emblem of India and Mahatma gandhi's favorite phrase 'Satyameva jayate' -Truth alone triumphs . to Gandhiji , Truth and God were synonyms. Sunderji , may i also add another quote on Truth in this context ? The rik (5.62.1) of the seer shrutavit atri & #343;tena & #343;tam apihitam dhruvam v & #257;m s & #363;ryasya yatra vimuchanti ashv & #257;n dasha shat & #257; saha tasthu & #293; tadekam dev & #257;n & #257;m shre & #351;h & #355;ham vapu & #351;h & #257;m apashyam. Translation: " There is a truth & #343;tam covered by a (inferior) truth & #343;tena where your place is secure, where they unyoke the horses of sun; the ten hundreds stood together, where was that One, I saw the greatest of the embodied Gods " RV (5.62.1). The import is clear: the highest eternal truth standing over, beyond is covered by the inferior truth of this creation; when this cover is removed, one comes face to face with the higher truth. The translation given here is according to the esoteric view. We discuss in detail S & #257;ya & #326;a's translation based on the gross interpretation. S & #257;ya & #326;a translates the first p & #257;da of the mantra as " water covering the solar orb " . He interprets the third p & #257;da in the mythological sense alluding to the imprisonment of the horses of the sun by asur & #257;s called Mandeha. Again his commentary illustrates his use of the mythological and naturalist ideas even though he claims to focus only on the ritualist . http://www.vedah.com/org/literature/upanishads/quotations.asp the sanskrit word for Truth is Satyam and SaT means Existence ! It is only through constnt practice of 'Satyam' ( dharma as well) one can arrive at Sat-chit-ananda that is why Verse 35 , chapter 6 of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita says : sri-bhagavan uvaca asamsayam maha-baho mano durnigraham calam abhyasena tu kaunteya vairagyena ca grhyate The Blessed Lord said: O mighty-armed son of Kunti, it is undoubtedly very difficult to curb the restless mind, but it is possible by constant practice and by detachment. swami chinmayananda says " Thus viewed, practice (Abhyasa) strengthens renunciation (Samnyasa), which generates detachment (Vairagya), and which in its turn deepens meditation (Abhyasa). Hand in hand, each strengthening the other, the total progress is steadily maintained. " Shri gurave namaha ! ps - my mom and i are having a very good time in the privacy of our hotel suite At 86 , she is still alert and cheerful . we came to the hotel suite mainly to escape the Harsh Delhi Winter !
