bandho, hari OM,

Venue: vyAsarAja maTha, pUrNaiah biidi, shriirangapaTTaNa,

Date and time: 26th Jan, 2008, Saturday, 5 PM.

Concurrent programme: 19th Jan 2008 to 26th Jan 2008, 9 AM to 5 PM, R^igveda

samhitaa yaagam.

shrii shrii jayachAmarAjendra voDeyar, the king of mysore had made a sterling

contribution to the corpus of printed vedic literature by being the first to

publish the saayaNa bhaaShya of all the vedas. He had also got published the 18

purANas. The books published had contributed greatly to the preservation and

propagation of vedic tradition in karnATaka, specially because erudite vidvaans

were involved in the publishing activity. Of this, the R^igveda samhitA bhAShya

alone runs into 36 volumes, or roughly 34000 pages, with an exhaustive index of

more than 1400 pages. It has the samhitaa, pada paaTha, saayaNa bhaaShya,

nirukta, and aitareya upaniShad bhaaShya.

As there hasn't been any effort to preserve or propagate the books published

by the mahArAjA either by the government or by private individuals, the works

were not available even to those who had an acute need for them.

It is with this background that Sriranga Digital Software Technologies Pvt.

Ltd. took upon itself the onerous task of making available the R^ig samhitaa

bhAShya to the public. The task wasn't easy as the books are rarely available

these days. Even the ones which were procured from different vidvaans had been

in a state of decay due to ravages of time. The books were first scanned, then

their image quality was improved and they have been put up as djvu images so as

to fit in a CD. You can see a sample of the work done here:

www.adhyatmaprakasha.org/samples/Rig_Vol2/Rig_Vol2.djvu

There has been a big value addition by way of hyperlinking the index entries

(all 1400 + pages of those) in the djvu document.

the release of the said CD is scheduled to happen on saturday, 26th Jan,

2007, at 5 PM at vyAsarAja maTha, pUrNaiah biidi, shriiranga paTTANa.

I request all aastikas/sanaatanis to participate in the function and make the

programme a grand success.

svasti,

JAYA BHAVAANII BHAARATII,

shrivathsa.
