Guest guest
Namaskar... I hope you don't mind my asking here for help finding the words to a Mirabai bhajan. I have googled it numerous ways and cannot find the lyrics to this particular pada although I have found numerous links and lyrics to other bhajans attributed to her. There is a link to Chalo Mana in the " streaming audio " section on the link below.. It is called Chalo Mana Ganga Jamuna Teer and I have taken quite a fancy to it and would like to know the lyrics and the translation. What little I have found seems to say that the title says... " Oh mind...let's go for a swim in the Jamuna River. And of course, the last line is her famous... Mira kahe prabhu giridar nagara It is beautiful and worth a listen anyway...a little dip in the Jamuna never hurt anyone :-) If anyone can help I would appreciate it!!! Thanks. Guest guest
Joyce, I have a version sung by Bhimsen and it is pure bliss for 20 minutes. He sings it as if he is slowly distributing sweets in a temple, one by one, showing different styles of singing the same line in a million different ways. It is one of my most favorite bhajans of all times. I listened and jotted down the lyrics myself, I might be off on a couple of words which I cannot make out clearly. I also made a rough translation. Lyrics: Chalo mana Ganga Jamuna teer Ganga Jamuna nirmal pani Sheetal hot shareer Bansi bajavat gavat kanha sang liye Balabeer Mor mukut pitamber sohe Kundal jhalakat dheer Ganga Jamuna nirmal pani Sheetal hot shareer Meera kahe Prabhu Giridhar Nagar Charan kamal par sheer This is my rough translation: O mind! lets go to the banks of Ganga-Jamuna Ganga Jamuna pure water The body becomes soothed Playing flute, singing Kanha (Krishna) Taking with (him) Balabeer (his brother) The peacock-crown, beautiful pitambar (yellow-coloured cloth) Earrings shine steadily Meera says My Lord (is) Giridhar Naagar (My) head on his lotus-feet. Meera bai is Supreme epitome of bhakti, and yet an accomplished Advaitiin. We should share more of her works/songs and discuss them here. Pranam, Vaibhav.
