Just to keep everyone up to date with relevant aspects of my website, I have

just added the 4th page of the dictionary of Sanskrit terms, covering

arthApatti - avyapadeshya -

http://www.advaita.org.uk/sanskrit/terms_a4.htm. Any additions/corrections

welcome.

And Part 45 of the 'Introduction to Vedanta' by Sri Sadananda is the fifth

of his section dealing with the nature of mind - Classification of the Mind

Part 3 -

http://www.advaita.org.uk/discourses/sadananda/mind_classification3_sadanand

a.htm. I am (hopefully with his consent!) editing this slightly as I go.

Best wishes,

Dennis

just added the 5th page of the dictionary of Sanskrit terms, covering

bAdha - buddhi -

http://www.advaita.org.uk/sanskrit/terms_b.htm. Any additions/corrections

And Part 46 of the 'Introduction to Vedanta' by Sri Sadananda is the sixth

of his section dealing with the nature of mind - Classification of the Mind

Part 4 -

a.htm.

Sada-ji: with your permission, I will omit the discourse on 'Anger' from

this series and possibly post it as a stand-alone essay later. Instead, I

will finish the 'Mind' strand and then move on to the 'Knowledge' series.

With the size of the essays that I post each week, I reckon I am now several

months behind but will get there eventually!

Best wishes,

Dennis

Dennis, looks like you will be busy for months - and looks like I will be busy

with

Vedanta ParibhASha for months too- But I need to finish this book since many

people

including myself have lot of problems in following the original. Shree Shastriji

summary

is helpful.

We could change the title to " Critical analysis of Vedanta ParibhASha' - if you

think it

is appropriate - since it gets attention to the book.

Would welcome suggestions from the silent majority who seems to be too silent

for too

long!

Dear Sada-ji,

In my summary of VP posted on my website I covered only perception

and inference. You are now on perception. Inference is more

complicated and it will take some time for you to complete it. The

next subject is Comparison which is a minor one. After that coms

sabda or verbal testimony. If you do not mind, I shall take up sabda

and post summaries.

Regards,

S.N.Sastri

Sastriji - that is great. Please do so - and also keep eye on what I am writing

to make

sure it is right. I write it sometimes in detail putting myself in a reader's

position.

But I must say I am enjoying it.

With praNAms.

praNAms Shri Sadaji,

I am really enjoying your posts. So, please continue them.

I do not have much comments as I am only a beginner in the field.

I have a couple of bibliographic questions though. Please

answer them.

1. Swami Satprakashanada's " Methods of Knowledge " is an

excellent book even for beginners like me. My question is,

is this a translation of VP, or loosely based on VP?

2. I have also looked at the following books from my University

library: (a) Prof. D.M. Datta: " Six ways of knowing " and (b)

Shri Kuppuswamy Sastri's " A Primer of Indian Logic " . Neither

of them (not surprisingly for me!) seem easy reads. The

former reads much like a philosophy text, but is closely

based on the aspects of VP. So, how close are any of

these to VP and are any of them translations of VP?
