Guest guest
List Moderators's Note: 70th birthday is celebrated as " Bhima ratha shanti " . Most of these functions are symbolic prayers for the health and prosperity of the couple. Bhima ratha shanti consists of conducting Chandi Homam, Ganapathy Homam, Grahapravesam, Kanakabhishekam, Laskshmi Pooja and Mrithyunjaya Homam. Such homams and poojas can be done very elaborately (more than one day) or within shortened time-period. Modern priests are quite accomodative to the demands and conveniences of attendees! Rituals similar to 60th birthday are conducted (including joyous activities like tying another mangala sutra – symbolical remarriage). If the 60th birthday pooja was not celebrated then it will be nice to include that ceremony at this time. A typical 60th birthday involves in your parents having a remarriage. You will need to buy a new mangalyam for your mother. The ceremony will follow all the rules of a normal wedding. The priest will fix a date and time for the marriage. The parents will participate in a pooja in which 33 kalasams (copper pots) are set up and initial pooja performed followed by Rudra japam. Then, both parents are given a ritualistic shower using water from the Kalasams. After this, they change into traditional dress for a marriage, the marriage ceremony is as any other marriage ceremony. 80th birthday (or seeing 1000 Pournamis)is celebrated with kanaka Abhishekam (showering gold coins on the person who has attained 80 years)in addition to the usual shanti homams. Note: This list generally don't entertain further discussions and knowledgeable members, please send your answers to the enquirer directly. ==================== Hi All, My father will be reaching 70 years this month and i was searching what are the pooja's to be done during this celebration. I read some sites mentioning Bhimaratha Shanti to be performed. Could someone please give more information on this? or what is pooja to be performed for the 70th Birthday? Thanks, Anand.
