Guest guest
Namaste, The bhAgavata purANa is considered by most historians to be a late text, probably post-Sankara. Much of the lore in the bhAgavata is much older, but the text itself was probably compiled only around the 10th century or so. The lore of rAdhA, which receives only passing mention in the bhAgavata, became popular only with jayadeva's gIta-govinda in the 12th century. There are other purANa-s that are much older. The viShNu purANa is one of the oldest and Sankara does quote it in his works. Why he has not mentioned anything about Srimad Bagavatham in any of his texts or narrations.
Guest guest
I do not think Bhagavat Ramanuja quoted Bhagavatam either but I may be worng. The justification was that he used only the pramANas that were accepted by other daashaNikas, particularly Shankara. In Bhagavatam - kaplopadesham is there that has advaita teaching (Swami Tejomayananda of Chinmaya Mission has commentary on it) and in the Uddhava Gita particularly the last but one chapter - summary chapter 23 - is pure advaita teaching by Krishna. Shankara would not have missed that if it had been available. We have yoga vaashiShTa and AShTavakra Gita - and AvadhUta Gita that are essentially Advaitic texts - They might have come after Shankara. Hari Om!
