To me these are the main topics of Vedanta from which we can benefit. I think we

should have more discussions on these matters.

I think most of the people do not know even what is Moksha, etc., but they do

know they have problems, not necessarily external like money, health, name/fame

etc. and they do want to manage/avoid them in order that they can have a

peaceful life.

Emotional pain. How do we deal with it?

First let us realize that any pain is always difficult to deal with - first it

is very personal and no one other than the one who is feeling can know the

intensity of that pain and the difficulty in dealing with it. It is easy for me

to advise others to objectify the pain since you are not the pain and you are

not in pain - If pain belongs to you, it will never leave you. You do not have

pain when you go to deep-sleep (assuming that your could with all that pain!).

You can welcome the pain and in the very welcoming you are ready to face it to

the degree that it is no more painful. - Very good advice - of course as long

as it is the others that are having pain.

What should I do when I am having intense pain, anger, frustrations, etc? Not

to have it is a useless advice since I already have it. Welcome the pain is

good but that requires me standing apart and welcoming with full heart. But if

I can stand apart to welcome it, I have already solved the problem since I am

already disassociated myself from the pain.

Here is the best approach for those who are already in pain. For those who are

not in pain, this is only an academic discussion.

Just go to the Lord and cry your heart out - The very crying and surrendering

to the Lord decreases the intensity of the pain.

Second recognize that He is there with you all the time to suffer along with

you the pain. Once you have that confidence that you are not alone, then of

course all other suggestions like welcoming it etc will apply.

Hence pray first thing in the morning - pray last thing in the night -

recognizing that He is there with you - remembering the Lord act on - The life

will be less painful. Looking back you feel that it gave you another

opportunity to think of the Lord - as Kunti requests Lord Krishna to give them

as many painful things as he can since that way they will remember him all the

time.

Hence every pain is a step towards Him. Actually you have to be thankful that

whatever Prarabda that one has to go through is getting over and you are

getting cleansed because of it - provided of course you THINK OF HIM and turn

your attention to higher.

With Him present all pain will become bearable and becomes an opportunity to be

with Him.

Dear Sada-ji:

I love your wonderful and spontaneous writing. If possible, over the

summer, I will put a few more of such pieces on the HS community

site/blog.

The human condition inherently involves pain and suffering. For many,

this is what makes them seek the mystery of life. Persistent

suffering and pain can lead to sadness and hopelessness.

The ancient sages understood the umbrella of protection needed by

seekers and hence spoke of the importance of satsang, the company of

good people in ones life.

Namaste and love to all

Hari OM!

Beautiful and reflective writeup on " emotional pain " . Even at

physical level, why do we cut a finger while cutting onions?

Cutting finger was neither the intention nor the goal. How come

finger got cut when it was only about onion-cutting? Simply, lack

of alertness. So too, it seems for emotional pain. Nothing wrong

with the cutting knife, but the wielding hand and the guiding mind

alone need alertness and vigilance. Nothing wrong with the world

outside, but our interaction with it causes pain or joy. All so

called accidents are merely those whose causes are ignored or not

seen clearly by lack of alertness. How to stay alert then? Watching

both inside and outside. Merely watching outside and ignoring our

actions, words and thoughts is like cutting onion ignoring where

holding fingers are resting. Merely watching within, our own

actions, words, thoughts but ignoring outside is like watching only

hand fingers, but ignoring where onion is! What cutting can that

do! Skillful in watching inside and outside - samatvam yoga

ucyate. No wonder spirituality is compared to walking on razor's

edge!
