Guest guest
Jai Guru How sleep takes over? What happens to the mind, in particular the ego, during deep sleep. It is explained normally that the mind goes to dormant stage engulfed by ingorance (avidya)during sleep. Consequently, there is no reflected consciousness and therefore no cognition takes place. (1)Is there more elaboration on this in any of Sankara's commentaries? Pure consciousness is there in all the three states. Due to ignorance or presence of vasanas, it is not felt during deep sleep,it is generally explained. With reference to deep sleep only, Bhagavan Ramana answers most of the questions. (2)What does happen to realized souls like Him during deep sleep (they do not have ego/vasanas)? For them, there should not be any difference between deep sleep and waking state, why, even death. (3) What happens if sleeping pill is taken? (4)What does medical science tell about deep sleep? If this is already discussed in this forum, please give the reference so that I can see that.
