Guest guest
Greetings to Fellow advaitans. I would appreciate if anybody could clear my doubt. Why the three Mata acharyas(Sankara, Madhwa , Ramanuja)did not consider puranas as Pramanas ? Why these puranas are not included in Prasthana trayam ? Why did they include Bhagavad gita along with upanishads though it is breif essence of all upanishads ? Thanks in Advance.
Guest guest
Sanjeeva murthy wrote- Namaste, it is a good question. Praasthaana trayee deals only with saarvatrika paripoornaanubhava. analyses completly jaagrat , swapna and sushuptaanubhava standing in a position called tureeya (maayaa sankhya) To know & understand Vedaanta a tripod is a must i.e.- shruti, yukti and anubhava. only Bhagavatpaada Shankara upholds saarvatrika paripoornaanubhava. not the other two. Now prasthaana means a route- upanishads are shruti prasthaana, Brahmasutraa's are Nyaaya prasthaana and the Bhagavadgeethaa is smruthi prasthaana . Puraanaas only deal with belief point of view. anubhava cannot be referrred. puraanaas help to make a man to be in paapa bheeti and to remain in bhakti bhaava. Bhagavatpaada shankara starts in his bhaashya of bhagavadgeetha - " tadidam geethaa shaastram samasta vEdaanta saara samgrahabhootham ...... " it is the quint essence of all upanishads. shubhamastu, sanjeeva murthy Anupama's question- >> I would appreciate if anybody could clear my doubt.
