Guest guest
SIVAPARADHA KSAMAPANA STOTRAM-3 By Adi Sankaracharya (Commentary by Swami Chinmayananda) Sloka II) Balye duhkhatireko malalulitavapuh stanyapane pipasa No saktascendriyebhyo bhavagunajanita jantavo mam tudanti. Nanarogadiduhkhadrudanaparavash sankaram na smarami Ksantavyome paradhah siva siva siva bhoh sri mahadeva sambho. When I had fully developed within my mother’s womb, to my sorrow I was mercilessly wrenched out of the security of its shelter. Suddenly I emerged into this strange world to suffer the crushing weight of the atmosphere around me. I screamed. What else could I do? Thereafter, no one could truly estimate the amount of suffering I had to undergo – innumerable tragic events comprising a catalogue of miseries. All through my infancy, I often had to lie in my own filth. When I was hungry and thirsty for my mother’s milk, I was often disappointed for long periods of time as I waited for my mother to fathom my need. I could express my despair only with shrieking cries of utter helplessness. Though I wanted to get up and run about – alas! – my tiny limbs had no strength for it. I had no defence against ants and other insects when they crawled over me and bit hungrily into my tender skin. My limbs had no ability then, even to drive them away. Manykinds of diseases pestered me from time to time. I could explain my discomforts to no one, nor did I know the remedy for my sorrows. All that I could do was cry, and cry again – until my throat became parched. Even at such times, due to the power of my past sinful lives, the thought of the Lord would never spring in my heart. All my sins, which reach me thus to provide me with endless sorrows, please forgive – forgive them all, O All-Merciful One! Forgive me. Forgive me. Besides Your all-forgiving grace, I have no other protection. To be continued… Pranams, Vanaja Ravi Nair Chocoholics & #39; paradise! Enter here. Guest guest
Namaskarams, Pujya Swami Paramarthanada is currently giving a series of talks on this most beautiful of stotras of BhagavatpAda - the current talk starting with " vardhakechendriyaanaam... " can be accessed at http://www.vedantavidyarthisangha.org/ Unfortunately (unlike with his regular series) the previous 2 talks of this particular series are no longer available. Swamiji gives both a word-by-word meaning as well as a thorough systematic explanation of each sentence with his characteristic precision. [incidentally, towards the end of this particular talk he talks about how a lot of people prefer vedanta over traditional ritualistic upAsana, etc as it is seemingly a very convenient armchair (with coffee-in-hand) philosophy one can quite comfortably indulge in endlessly, as compared to the rigors and strict rules of ritualistic worship starting with waking up prior to sunrise for morning sandhyavandanam!!] Hari OM Shri Gurubhyoh namah Shyam --- " B.V.
