Guest guest Posted June 7, 2008 Report Share Posted June 7, 2008 shloka 14 is given below. vande devam umApatim suragurum vande jagatkAraNamvande pannagabhUshhaNam mRigadharam vande pashUnAm patim | vande sUryashashAnkavahninayanam vande mukundapriyamvande bhaktajanAshrayam ca varadam vande shivam shankaram ||14 vande- I bow down to, devam- the effulgent, umApatim- consort of umA, suragurum- the guru of the gods, jagatkAraNam- the Cause of the universe, pannagabhUshhaNam- (pannaga- snake, bhUshhaNam- ornament)- who has snakes for ornaments, mRigadharam- who holds a deer in his hand—the deer is the symbol of our fickle mind; He controls our mind if we surrender ourselves to Him. pashUnAm patim- the Lord of animals—all living beings, including human beings, are referred to as animals because of their ignorance of their real nature. sUrya-shashAnka-vahni-nayanam- Whose eyes are the sun, the moon, and fire, mukundapriyam- whom mukunda is very fond of, bhaktajanAshrayam- the refuge of devotees, varadam- the bestower of boons,shivam- auspicious, shankaram- One who bestows welfare on all (sham karoti), Lord shiva. 14. I bow down to Lord shiva who is most auspicious, who is effulgent, the Consort of umA, the guru of the gods, the Cause of the universe, who is adorned with snakes, who holds a deer in his hand, who is the lord of all creatures, whose eyes are the sun, moon and fire, who is the beloved of mukunda, who is the refuge of devotees, who bestows boons and who confers welfare on all.
