the question posed to me is as follows:

"is there a scriptural reference that one can cite in support of the following episode:

after the samudra manthana, the asuras ran off with the amritam. the Devas appealed to Lord Vishnu who asked Bali why they had taken away the amritam for themselves. Bali replied that the asuras had the strength to do so, so why not? Lord Vishnu admonished Bali that strength is to be used in support of justice and not for selfish purposes."

many thanks for your help n tracking this down if possible by the end of this week.

the Devas appealed to Lord Vishnu who asked Bali why they had taken

away the amritam for themselves.  Bali replied that the asuras had

the strength to do so, so why not?  Lord Vishnu admonished Bali that

strength is to be used in support of justice and not for selfish

purposes. "

Dear shri Ram,

The episode of the asuras snatching and running away with the pot

of nectar comes in chapter 8 of skandha 8 of Srimad Bhagavatam. Bali

does not come in this episode at all and there is no such statement

to Vishnu by any asura. This may be in some other Bhagavata in one

of the regional languages or in Devi Bhagavatam which I have not

studied in detail.
