Guest guest
Dear Friends, I had the opportunity of hearing one of the lecturers telling about Bhatta and Guru Matams. But, unfortunately, I did not know what they mean, and what their philosophies are. Can any one can give me some pointers towards this? Thanks in advance. Anupam. Guest guest
Shree Anupam - PraNAms Bhatta may be referring to Kumarila Bhatta - he and Prabhakara are puurvamiimamsakas. Actually the credit goes to Kumarila Bhatta in wiping out Buddhism from India. The story goes that he joined the Buddhistic monastry to study Buddhism so that he can defeat it. He challenged his own teacher after he came out Buddhism. Later, because of he learned the philosophy by deception, he immolated himself and when Shankara approached for a debate it was said that he was on his death bed. He was happy to see Shankara and asked him to meet his disciple Mandana Misra and have a debate. I have never heard of Guru Matam as some philosophy. Hari Om! Guest guest
Prabhakara is known as Guru and his school of Purvamimamsa is known as Guru Matam. The BhAtta school of Kumarila Bhatta and the PrAbhAkara school of Prabhakara arethe two main schools of purvamimamsa. Going into further details about these schools would be outside the scope of this group which is devoted to discussion of advaita..
