Guest guest
Dear Friends, Satyas are of three kinds. Paramartika, vyavahaarika and praatibhasika satyas. Paramaartika is the Eternal Truth, or Atman or Brahman. That Truth, revealed by Atma Jnana is Paramaartika Satya. Vyavaharika is ephemeral, with which we do some actions, for example, the world and its vagaries. That is experienced by a person, who is yet to discover Atman, is vyavaharika Satya. Can any one please explain me what is praatibhasika satya? With regards, Anupam.

At the other extreme, there is the total unreality of a " hare's horn " . This is called 'asat' in Sanskrit. All other 'realities' come in between these 'sat' and 'asat'. Your vyAvahArika reality (which may be translated as operational reality) comes in between 'sat' and 'asat'. There are some more: subjective reality (prAtibhAsika-satyam). Like Dream Reality. Dream is real only to the dreamer and during the dream only. It is subjective. Reflection in a mirror is also a prAtibhAsika satyam. The appearance of a snake where there is only a rope is also one like that. The 'snake appearance' vanishes when the environment is lighted. Advaita Vedanta says that the existence of this universe itself is like the appearance of this snake on the rope. They say the universe appears to our view, but there is only brahman. Any reality which is not 'sat' and which cannot be categorised as 'asat' is categorized as 'mithyA' in advaita. So the Universe is a mithyA -- mithyA meaning, neither 'sat' nor 'asat'. PraNAms to all advaitins. profvk
Guest guest
Dear Anupam, You are seeking many clarifications and giving certain clarifications to other seekers also. At the outset,I suggest you to go to the web site www.Advaita-vedanta.org , down load some articles specially " An introduction to Advaita Vedanta" which contains solutions to most of your clarifications. Many technical advaitic jargons are also explained with examples. If you still need something more, you can seek through this list. I am reminded of one incident of Swami Chinmayananda used to quote in his lecture. He used to advise his disciples not to ask any questions for one year of their training and to ask only after that period if any doubts are remaining. Hence I suggest you to go through some documents already available over our group web sites before asking certain questions.
