In the Adhyasa Bhashya link quoted in my post 41373, Shri Subhanu Saxena has referred to Sureshwara's vartika. It doesn't say which vartika! Perhaps, Bhaskar-ji might recognize the relevant verse below quoted by him and be able to locate the correct reference: Atah pramANato'shakyA'vidyA'syeti vIxitum KIdrshI vA kuto vAsAvanubhUtyekarUpatah Sambandha Vartika 184 |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| Namaste Madathi-ji and Bhaskar-ji, Thanks for that clarification. I assumed that quote from Sureshwara was a comment on the adhyasa bhasya. I found it intriguing in that it seemed to support the Modest Interpretation i.e. how the object which is inert comes to be within the consciousness of the subject. I find that the ancient commentaries retain more of the original intent of the text. Somehow the moderns have become influenced by ideas from psychology and science. I must have a good search for Sureshwara's work in translation. Best Wishes, Michael

One cannot go by glistering aspect to determine the substantive whether it is gold or gold plated and look-alike gold. I know you do not agree with my interpretation. That is good. No problem with that. But I would also like you to keep an open mind - if mind can grasp the substantive then one can immediately determine if the glistering object is gold or not and there cannot be any possibility for error to take the glistering object as gold if it is not gold. I maintain because the mind cannot get substantive knowledge through just by perception, there is a possibility of errors; ropes as snakes and snakes as ropes and all yellowish glistering things as gold and all silvery-shining things including nacre as silver. Nayaayika's last objection posted addresses exactly that. If the mind grasps the substantives as vishiShTaadvaita and dvaita theories propose, then they have to use other khyaati vaadas to explain error and not adhyaasa. Anyway keep the subject open may be we will together discover the truth. PraNAms again Hari Om! Sadananda
