Rajju and Sarpa

Dear members,

 

The old sarpa is yet to die. One of my learned friends posed me a

problem about this rajju and sarpa. He said: " To be see a sarpa on

the rajju, certain conditions must be fulfilled. There must be a

saadR^ishyata (similarity) between the adhishThana and the aaropa.

For example, the rope is sharing a common property with a snake. The

appearance of the snake and rope are same. No one, however deluded,

will see, say, a table as snake or a book as snake. Because, there is

no such similarity between them. If we have to " see " Brahman as this

prapancha, there must be some similarities. But, naanaa vividha

roopam eva prapanchaH, whereas Brahman is One and Homogeneous. "

 

I never thought about this point earlier. Please let me know how I

can understand this.

Kindly dont go anywhere in finding answer to this questions...Sri sankara bhagavatpAda himself has addressed this question in his preamble to sUtra bhAshya (adhyAsa bhAshya)...Kindly go through it.

Shree Anupam - PraNAms

 

In the advaitin list serve archives there is folder under Brahma suutras - There

are several files - I have discussed extensively based on Swami Paramarthanadaji

talks the adhyaasa bhaashya. This saadRisyam aspect has been addressed.
