Dear Michael-ji, Padmapada, one of the four direct disciples of Shri Shankra, says categorically that avidya is the material cause of adhyasa. You say that to say so is a muddle. So you are implying that even Padmapada did not understand Shankara inspite of having been with him and listened to his expositions.
