Guest guest
In the book 'Dialogues with the Guru' which is collection of discussions between the Sringeri Acharya and a Devotee on various subjects, there is a chapter on Fate and Free Will. A soft copy of this chapter used to be available aomewhere on the net and if I remember right it was even an attachment in one of the posts on this list. I cannot locate the copy on the net. does not save attachments. Nor is the chapter available in the files section of advaitin. I will be extremely grateful, if somebody can let me have the link to this soft copy or email it to me. Many thanks and praNAms, Venkat

Which is first?which is next? Ther is a saying that " Buddhi Karmanusarine " which means that The BUDDHI of a man acts according to his KARMA in his previous birth. If it is true how this BUDDHI will be formed in the begining? This is a great doubt for me since a long time. I earnestly Request all Advitins to clarify my doubt and oblize.

Dear Bagavan-ji, It is true that the buddhi of an individual is influenced by the samskaras acquired by him in previous births. I suppose your question is how there could be any samskara in the very first birth of a particular jiva, which would influence the nature of his buddhi in that birth? This question has been raised and answered in brahma sutra 2.1.35. The answer is that there is no such thing as a first birth, because samsAra is beginningless. So this question does not arise. Best wishes, S.N.Sastri

When he realizes his real nature he s no longer a jiva but remains as brahman. His jivatvam comes to an end. All the good deeds and study of Vedanta ultimately lead to the realization that he is brahman. Thus all these are useful. He is expected to use his discrimination and do what is right. He has the freedom to choose either the right path or the path of evil in any situation. Even a poor illiterate man can choose to earn his livelihood by honest means or to resort to evil ways. A person's freedom may be limited to some extent by the circumstances of his birth and upbringing, but he certainly has the freedom to decide what he should do and he is responsible for the consequences of his actions. It is the consequences of his actions that become his `fate' in subsequent births. Best wishes, S.N.Sastri
