Guest guest
praNAms Hare Krishna We have seen in this list that some scholars of advaita vedanta argued that avidyA is nothing but a kArya (effect) of mAya. But regarding this I've the following observations : (a) There is an elaborated narration in shruti-s & smruti-s on the creation of nAma rUpatmaka jagat / mAya (AkAshAt vAyuH, vAyoragniH, agnerApaH) etc. etc. but nowhere we have seen the *creation* of avidyA from this mAyA rUpa jagat..Instead, shankara says avidyA is anAdi..(beginningless)..So, there is no support from scriptures that avidyA is mAya kArya. (b) Since it is said in shAstra & shankara's works that avidyA is anAdi we cannot have *samavAya (assemblage) saMbaMdha* with prakruti/srushti...Because if that is the case it should have the status prAgabhAva!! © If we say avidyA is the kArya of prakruti / mAya, since prakruti is dravya rUpa, this avidyA also should have the form of dravya...But nowhere in the shruti/bhAshya it is said that avidyA has dravya svarUpa!! If avidyA is not abhAva rUpa & has the dravya rUpa like prakruti, the eradication of this type of avidyA is not possible through jnAna..coz. jnAna cannot eliminate that is already existing!! (na tu pAramArthikaM vastu kartum navataituM vA arhati brahmavidyA..says shankara in bruhadAraNyaka) (d) it's been said in the bhAshya that at the final dissolution (praLaya) this vyaktAtmaka jagat (manifested world) gets merged with Ishwara in an unmanifested form (avyAkruta rUpa)...If avidyA is mAyA kArya, then this avidyA also should get merged in Ishwara & we are forced to conclude that avidyA has the eternal relationship with Ishwara & Ishwara also like us *nitya saMsAri*...this is no doubt an *apa siddhAnta* coz. Ishwara in his svarUpa is nothing but nitya shuddha buddha, mukta. Hari Hari Hari Bol!!! bhaskar
