Guest guest
Adi Sankara was an avatar of Lord Siva. In his short life of 32 years he achieved what ordinary men could not even in hundred years. Even before he was 12 years old, he had mastered all the sastras. He then apprached a guru, Govind Bhagavatpada, since only by abiding by the teachings of a guru one could attain kaivalyam or liberation. On the command of his guru, Sankara wrote commentaries on the Upanishads, the Bhagavadgita and the Vedanta Sutras of Badarayana catered to the needs of intelligentsia. But, for a system to take roots in the whole land, it should reach the grassroots or the common people. With this in mind Sankaracharya wrote many minor works, called the prakaranas. Each prakarana takes up one issue in the sastras, analyses it thrreadbare and gives the final view in accordance with sastras. Among Sankara's prakaranas, some like Viveka Chudamani,Upadesa Sahasri and Atmanatma Vivekam are well-known. Through Atmanatma Vivekam, Adi Sankara teaches knowledge of Brahman, as propounded in the Upanishads. In this prakarana text, in addition to Atma and Anatma, ragas, abhimanam, ahamkaaram, avivekam, agnanam, gnanam, sadhana chatustayam , samadamadishatkam, shadvidhalingalu, indriyalu, panchikaranam and other important issues are explained in a way a common man can understand. I request you to listen Atmanatma Vivekam . http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=dr.anjaneyulu%20goli%20AND% 20collection%3Aopensource_audio
