Guest guest
Dear Ram-ji and Moderators, Thank you for arranging the poll. This is just to say I voted that there should be no time limit for this discussion. I think this principle is sound for all advaita related discussions and threads. I also have a lot of respect for the Moderators of this group and I feel that when they do intervene, when they wish to draw the groups attention to some dynamic that is operating in the discussions, this is based on a genuine concern to help members explore in ways that are productive and respectful of all concerned. Such interventions may not suit everybody and occasionally may be subject to human error, however, the fact that the moderators feel moved to speak up at all is invariably a sign that members need to take stock of the situation before pressing ahead. I hope, therefore, that whatever the results of the poll the moderators will continue in the same spirit Best wishes to all Advaitins, Peter

Like it or not, everything-every " thing " - has time limit, even life. Not just moderators, but as spiritual aspirants, but we all need self-moderation. There is a difference between discussion and endless repetition by selectively quoting scriptures to argue for one's standpoint. We have a saying that even a devil can quote scriptures. Shankara cared for his mother, prayed for poor, sang for ignorant, loved showing light and importantly, lived the teachings he taught. Real discussion is not limited to the list, but extends it. Writing eloquent arguments on the list, and seething in anger at mere hint of criticism off the list, speaks against the very scholarship. How we live speaks loudly than what we say. Value of discussions rests more on how much it transforms us, not others. More on how much it improves us, not proves to others. ------ Hari OM! -Srinivas

Guest guest
Dear Srinivas, Yes, I noticed that too which is why I voted by clicking the link provided. I also wanted to let the moderators know that while I voted not to end the discussion, I value their moderation and would like it to continue. There was no link to click for this hence I expressed it here. Best wishes, Peter advaitin [advaitin ] On Behalf Of Srinivas Nagulapalli 12 February 2009 15:15 advaitin Re: Poll advaitin , " Peter " <not_2 wrote: > > > This is just to say I voted that there should be no time limit for > this discussion. Guest guest
PraNams to all Personally the discussion should continue - if there are fresh points to ponder - that BIG IF are there. Originally I suggested to close it since there were no new points that are being brought out. - then Dennis comment came that the discussion would natureally die by themselves but this particular discussion looks like is taking a very slow death process. Here is my proposition. Let us limit the discussion not more than one or two per day from the same person. we are not using the criteria any more but perhaps we need to initiate that again. The purpose is not to curtain but to prevent immediate and quick responses and perhaps provide a deeper thinking before one posts it. I need to follow this myself so that many of my english mistakes MAY be prevented. Also we get to study the posts since it is becoming difficult for me evern to cope up with all of them. I see the people are expressing their opinions outside the pole only because it does not cover what people to want say. Hari Om! Guest guest
Namasthe, Below is an excerpt from the lecture that has been prepared by abridging and editing original text of Swami Chidananda of Central Chinmaya Mission Trust, Mumbai 400072, for Vedanta Class at Sri Ganesha Temple, Nashville, TN. ""Words inspire. Words bind too. Words are like a boat which we must use to cross a river. We must leave the boat and walk to the other shore. Attachment to verbosity has held back many a spiritual seeker from higher possibilities. The Upanishad says in Mantra 15: "When covered by the power of words (sound) one does not know the Self (called the sky or space here) being enveloped in darkness. When the darkness (ignorance) is destroyed, one sees the oneness, being the One". Leaving the boat before embarking on the journey is a blunder. Holding on to the boat """ Hope the above was usefull. Guest guest
Namasthe, I as a silent member am learning so much of ego at play from the discussion forum on wanting to have the last word, doing the role(But getting attached to it),using words like pranam without feeling it ,defending the interpretations, Higher the Knowledge? Of scriptures viewing others with pity etc. As I am trying to introspect and identify its play at source to eradicate it and such topic brings it fully I welcome it as long as it is lively and help all members to introspect.( I have voted) Regards, Vaidyanathan
