Guest guest
Namaste members: I want to take this opportunity to add some more clarifications with respect to the role of members, the purpose of moderators and this list as stated in FAQ and list guidelines. Members who are not familiar with the goal of this list (see FAQ advaitin list) and posting guidelines (list guidelines) should : advaitinModerate/. A careful reading of the available documents in the file folder, <Moderate> will be very helpful for members to understand their privileges and responsibilities. The moderators have the added responsibility to make sure that the subject matter of all discussions fall within the scope of the list and members follow the stipulated guidelines. Moderators have the authority to intervene during the list discussions when they find the interpretations and/or statements from the posters are not validated with supporting evidence from advaita tradition as established by Sankara or other authoritative sources. Members are reminded that the moderators will exercise their RIGHT to intervene at appropriate moments. During the past 10 years moderator have exercised this extraordinary privilege only very few times under the following situations: (1) when a member divert the discussions by focusing on the personalities instead of the subject matter; (2) when a member repeatedly violate list guidelines; (3) when a member makes insulting remarks on another poster or religious texts; and (4) when discussions get diverted and dragged away from the subject matter. It should be pointed out that the list's guidelines have been continuously get updated by incorporating constructive suggestions from the members. Some of the recent postings (members take few moments to read their own writings) exhibit more arrogance and less scholarship. The list and members can benefit much more if they show humility with scholarship. Please watch your language and follow the basic ethics of decency while providing your replies. One of the best ways to control anger, frustrations and arrogance is by restricting to post a maximum of 2 posts (list guidelines stipulate only 2 posts per day!) and we expect members to follow this honor code. Sri Balagopal's posting #43578 is quite appropriate for the posters to remind themselves: " Words inspire. Words bind too. Words are like a boat which we must use to cross a river. We must leave the boat and walk to the other shore. Attachment to verbosity has held back many a spiritual seeker from higher possibilities. The Upanishad says in Mantra 15: " When covered by the power of words (sound) one does not know the Self (called the sky or space here) being enveloped in darkness. When the darkness (ignorance) is destroyed, one sees the oneness, being the One " . We earnestly request the members to take more time to contemplate before exhibit their reactions. We hope this clarification helps. Advaitin List Moderators
Guest guest
Very much agree that everybody should be respectful to other's viewpoints and be humble during the discussions in this group. But frankly, I would have loved to see such a mail from the moderators when there were some comments like " spurious explanations " , " convoluted arguments " etc. mentioned by some of the posters few weeks back. Anyway, that is history. Hopefully, we will see more balanced posts from everyone, and not statements like " views of Mr. X and Mr. Y are wrong " etc. Peace to all, Raj. advaitin , " advaitins " <advaitins wrote: > > Namaste members: > > I want to take this opportunity to add some more clarifications with > respect to the role of members, the purpose of moderators and this > list as stated in FAQ and list guidelines.
