Namaste Sri Jabalimuni:

Gita Jayanthi day is the anniversary day commemorating the day that

Srimad Bhagavad Gita was spoken by Lord Sri Krishna to His dear &

most devotee Arjuna at the place now known as Jyotisar Tirtha amid

the warring families of the Kurus and the Pandavas at Kurukshetra.

Traditionally devotees come to Kurukshetra (Dharmakshetra) and recite

Bhagavad Gita from early morning until the next morning, perform

Arati (Puja of Light Ceremony) to Bhagavad Gita and to Krishna and

Arjuna upon the chariot, offer lamps 'deep daan' at Brahma Sarovar,

shloka recitals, shobha yatras and seminars on the significance of

the Gita today. Devotees who cannot get to Jyotisar Tirtha remember

the blessed event by reciting Bhagavad Gita, performing and

discussing the subject matter of Bhagavad Gita in the association of

devotees. Distribution of Bhagavad Gitas' on this day is also a very

auspicious activity to perform. Sometimes people refer to this

holiday as the " Birthday of the Bhagavad Gita; " however, divine

wisdom cannot be said to take birth! One cannot really say that the

Divine Song has a birthday. Actually, Gita Jayanti is the anniversary

of the day, nearly 6000 years ago, when Sanjaya recited the words

which Bhagwan Shri Krishna spoke to Arjuna, on the battlefield in

Kurukshetra, for the blind King Dhritarashtra. Along with the epic of

the Mahabharata, this Divine Song was transcribed into words by Veda

Vyasji for the benefit of humanity.

During the last Gita Jayanthi day (December 10,2009) we had several
