Guest guest
Namaste all. Amidst the flood of scholarly posts on this list let me strike a different note by proposing to start a series of posts at a rather lower level, but from one of the most authentic sources, namely the discourses of Kanchi Maha Swamigal (1894 – 1994). This list has grown in membership, in the past nine years, to almost around 2000 members not counting those who joined but later left. Thus the average input has been more than one per day. Certainly not all of them are scholars. Most of them have come in expecting to learn and benefit by the education in advaita they would get from the discussions in the group. I feel therefore that a continuing important service that we have to do for them is to dwell on the basics again and again so that the newcomers may not be flabbergasted by technical discussions between scholars at very high levels – though such discussions must form a continuing activity because that may give it its inner strength. Our advaitin list is one of the few on the web which has a high standard of scholarly discussions – what with Sastri-ji, Sada-ji, Michael-ji, Shyam-ji, Durga-ji, Bhaskar- Prabhuji, Br. Pranipata Chaitanyaji, Sunderji, Nairji, Dennis-ji, Lakshmi Muthuswamy-ji, Srinivasamurthy-ji, Jaishankar-ji, Ram Chandran-ji, Ananda Wood, Putran-ji, R.S. Mani-ji, Ramakrishna Upadrashta, Devanathan-ji and many more, I request their pardon, whom I am not naming here. These scholarly discussions (barring some of the ego-centred repartees!) should continue. But I want now to think of the larger majority of novices to advaita. I propose therefore to start very soon a long series of translations of the discourses in Tamil of Kanchi Mahaswamigal on the subject of Advaitam proper. Earlier I had the opportunity of translating his discourses on Advaita Saadhanaa, but that was at a higher level. This time I have selected his discourses on advaitam which starts from scratch but goes on in his own style to the apex level of advaita. This series will not only benefit the beginners in advaita but will form an authentic refresher for the more knowledgeable members. Probably this whole series is available in English as a printed book. I have had no occasion to see it. It is not also available online, though the Tamil original is. I take this task as a nididhyAsanA exercise for me because by reading the Tamil version I notice that the full content does not get into my system, whereas, when I spend time translating it, I am able to think about each idea several times and this is the nididhyAsanA that I am talking about. In the meantime I would like to draw the attention of advaitin list members to the translation work I have undertaken in the Harshasatsangh , of Ramana Maharishi's `Ulladu Narpadu' (Reality in Forty Verses). Two benediction verses and three of the main text are already published, both in that list and on luthar.com blog. In the later verses of that work every question that has been bothering many on this list – jnAni's worldly appearance, nature of enlightenment, etc. – are all answered categorically by the Maharishi and in Lakshmana Sharma's Tamil commentary of the verses. I would appeal to the members on this list to have a look at them. Anyway I look forward to a very useful enlightening six-month activity. Incidentally let me appeal to all not to be shy in asking questions on the presentation, to which, if I fail to respond, many on the list – particularly the members whom I named earlier -- will be ready to respond. With praNAms to all advaitins. And with praNAms to the Kanchi Mahaswamigal profvk
Guest guest
Dear Advaitin Sangha members: Like all you of you, I am amazed at Krishanmurthy-ji's perpetual vitality and brilliance that is of constant blessing to us in his translations and commentaries on important works on Advaita. The translations that Krishnamurthy-ji is doing of Bhagavan Ramana's " Ulladu Narpadu " and Lakshamna Sharma's commentaries in Tamil is truly a boon for the devotees. In April or May, or sometime soon in the summer, I will ask the webmaster for Luthar.com (also known as .com) to highlight this work under featured articles. In this way, when someone clicks on the " Ulladu Narpadu " feature, all of the links to various verses and commentaries by Krishnamurthy-ji will appear to the reader in one place. Having the whole set available in one click will make these works easy to access. I should mention to everyone that Professor Krishnamurthy-ji has fully mastered the blogging system using wordpress with almost no help from anyone. He is now able to write, edit, and publish articles by himself without any assistance. I am truly impressed by Krishnamurthy-ji's confidence and a wide range of gifts and talents that he uses to benefit us all. This is God's grace at work. I express my gratitude in humility to Krishnamurthy-ji. Namaste and love to all Yours in Bhagavan Harsha advaitin [advaitin ] On Behalf Of V. Guest guest
Dear Krishnamurthy Ji,I thank you heartily for this initiative. I am one of the novices. Everyday I just rush through the subjects of the messages (not even the contents) posted on the group. I can't make head or tail of them. I have had no formal training in Vedanta. I hope to catch up on Vedanta proper through your generosity. Thanks and regards, rajesh Add more friends to your messenger and enjoy! Invite them now.
