Dear friends

I have been going through this text named 'Surya Gita' - which is an Advaitic

text of five chapters and about 350 verses - and have translated it and have put

up the Sanskrit text and my translation on my blog. Here is the link to it:

My knowledge of Sanskrit it not that good but still I think I have managed to do

a fairly good translation.

If anyone is interested, he can go through the text and if some errors (which

would invariably be there, since I am not an expert in this language) or better

translations of verses can be suggested by someone then I shall be really

grateful.

regards

I am not sure who the composer of this Gita is. Looks like much later period

since talks about Shiva vs. Vishnu and advaita and vishiShTaadvaita. Teaching of

Shiva to Brahma gets shifted to Suurya to Aruna glorifying in between among

saguna brahman, shiva as satvic guNa dominated, brahma as rajasic dominated and

Vishnu as tamasic dominated - all though parabrahma is advaitic. Must have been

composed at the height of shaivism-vaishnavism quarrels at its peak. Ramanuja's

philosophy is called vishiShTaadvaita even much later although not sure the

exact dates. May be Vedanta Deshika might have used that term in his

ShatadhuushaNii.

Discarding the saguna aspects, the message is very clear.

I think I should also have mentioned the source of this text. The gita is excerpted from the text called Tattvasaarayana which is supposed to be authored by sage Vasishtha.I got hold of the Sanskrit text of the gita from the sanskrit documents websitehttp://www.sanskritdocuments.org/doc_giitaa/doc_giitaa.htmlInterestingly Tattvasaaraya also contains a Rama Gita - a text of 18 chapters and 1000 verses, which is a conversation beween Rama and Hanumana.regards--- On Tue, 24/2/09, kuntimaddi sadananda <kuntimaddisada wrote:kuntimaddi sadananda <kuntimaddisadaRe: Surya Gitaadvaitin Date: Tuesday, 24 February, 2009, 5:40

Dear Veneet-ji,

Your effort in translating the Suryagita is very commendable.

As pointed out by Sada-ji, this does not appear to be an ancient work.

Best wishes,
