Guest guest
Namaste Mounaji: Your understanding is quite correct and clearing one's doubts is also an integral part of Mananam and your reference to Swami Paramathmananda is correct. This does not mean that the student who wants to clear the doubts should stick with only one teacher. It is just like we move from elementary school to middle school to high school and to college for furthering our education. This brief note from the biography of Swami Chinmayanandaji contains some clues: Swamiji joined Sivananda ashram, and on the 25th of February 1949, the auspicious day of Sivaratri Swami Sivananda initiated Menon to the order of sanyas. His name become now SWAMI CHINMAYANANDA SARASWATI, the one who revels in the bliss of pure consciousness. Swamiji studied and worked in the ashram for some time. But for him the only path was GNANA YOGA, therefore Swami Sivananda told him: " You need to master the scriptures! Go to Uttarkashi to study under the Vedantic master, Swami Tapovan! " Thus Swamiji spent 8 years studying the scriptures at the feet of Sri Swami Tapovan in the high Himalayas in Uttarkashi. It was not easy, for Swami Tapovan was a great disciplinarian and a very demanding teacher. He never repeated his lesson twice. Swamiji lived in the cowshed with the stone for a pillow. However, Chinmaya was the uttama adhikari (the best Student), his burning desire for Self-knowledge knew no obstacles. He was often seen sitting all night in meditation in a quiet forest or on the Ganges banks. days he spent on studies and contemplation and guru seva (service to the guru). How does this relate to Mananam? Swami Chinmayananda's doubts couldn't be cleared by Sivanandaji (both the Guru and the student found the solution) and with the guidance of Sivanandaji, he moved to Uttarkasi to learn from Tapovanji. When found that when our doubts didn't get clear, we should prepare to move and find other means of clearing our debates. That is also Mananam! That is also Mananam! Namaste dear RamJi, pranams That's why, as a beginner, I'm still " sticking " to this Discussion Group, since there are still people that are open to discuss and explain their views is someone, after reflecting on them, has doubts (or present another point of view) about them. Thanks for your time, Yours in Bhagavan, Mouna
Guest guest
Mounaji - PraNAms Mounaji - mananam involves several aspects - 1) discussion if that means is available and 2) study of scriptures until the doubts gets clarified and 3) more shravanam since some of the previous doubts gets resolved with further study and 4) more contemplation and analysis using ones own intellect to see coherency of the ideas and 5) asking a teacher if available and 6) all of the above. Here Shree Subbuji who was contributing to the discussions on a regular basis has decided to withdraw to quieter saadhana and occasionally communicates his understanding when he finds time. We should respect that and if you have any questions I am sure there are others who can address those issues, may not be to your satisfaction, but at least based on the scriptural understanding. If you do have any specific questions you can ask and there may be other who can respond to you - if no one can answer, one of the moderators can communicate to Subbuji and get his answer if he finds that it is important. Hope this helps Hari Om! Sadananda --- On Wed, 2/25/09, Mouna <maunna wrote:
