Namaste,

Many thanks for allowing me to join/rejoin this group for I have erred and been wandering amiably around Webspace for too long now. My good intentions to re-join were filed in the 'tomorrow' folder until I came across Sunder-ji's name at the head of an account of Iyer's film of Shankara's life.

Having managed to purchase this DVD last year I celebrated my birthday by inviting some friends to an evening of Sanskrit movie viewing.

Later I found an on-line resume of the film and it began by saying that Sunder-ji would be be helping with a new version of the review.

I have never been able to find that up-date and wonder if it is in the Advaitin archives somewhere. I have had a quick look but cannot find it.

Can someone advise please,

Many thanks,

Ken Knight

Namaste Ken-ji,

Many Happy Returns of the Day to you, and a cordial welcome!

What a way to celebrate one's b'day!! Acharya's blessings are surely on you and

your friends, and on us cyber-pilgrims for getting the news.

The review was not by me, but by the blog-writer at:

http://brahmanisone.blogspot.com/2006/01/adi-shankaracharya-movie-by-gviyer.html

It was just over 3 yrs ago, and I don't recall the details. If I did

contribute anything, it was to send the references and correct transliteration

of the sanskrit words and verses that were quoted, and maybe some minor

corrections of factual errors. That was all! I have not followed up on any

revision. The review was done entirely by the writer, and Subbu-ji had

given high praise for the essay.

Welcome again, and hope to read more from you in the days ahead.

Regards,

Sunder

praNAms Shri Sunder-ji,

Thanks for the very gentle reminder. Your modesty truly humbles me! I have

updated the post.

As to why the blog-post was not updated for sometime has more to do with

tAmasik svabhaava (which takes the form of an illusive nature of

perfectness), than anything else.

I would like to contribute this post for the advaitin file sections, if the

moderators agree to it. In the process, I am also open to corrections

to the review.

praNAms to all advaitins,

bhava Shankara deshika me sharaNam.

Namaste all,Many thanks to you all for your welcomes and for remembering past efforts to be of use, a usefulness made possible by the wonders of shruti.Thank you Ramakrishna for the updated file on Iyer's film of Adishankara's life. May I recommend this file and the DVD of the film to any members who have yet to see it.Incidentally, if there are any members of this group who live in England and Shropshire in particular, about twenty of us are going to gather in an old farmhouse for a couple of study days on the weekend of March 27th/28th. We will break the film down into five sections. Because the young Shankara goes to see a Kathakali performance of Naciketas we will study the Katha Upanishad to aid understanding of the whole film. We will also study Shankara's

commentary on Brahma Sutra 2.1.14I hope the moderators do not mind my mentioning that. If anyone could and would like to join us the please contact me at the above address.Om sri ramKenRamakrishna Upadrasta <uramakrishnaadvaitin Sent: Wednesday, 4 March, 2009 1:11:36 PM Re: Iyer's Adi Shankara film

Ken - PraNAms

welcome back.

Would be useful to the memebers if you can summarize the discussions and post

them to the group.
