Dear All,

Namaste.

Brahman is hinted in two different ways. They are called tadastha

lakshana and svarupa lakshana.

For the former, taittiriya upanishad is often taken:

yato vaa imaani bhutaani jaayante etc.

For the latter, again, taittiriya upanishad is taken:

satyam jnanam anantam brahma etc.

Can any one please exactly explain what the tadastha lakshana and

svarupa lakshana mean? For tadastha lakshana generally we hear an

illustration of 'traveling in a boat and the trees etc on the banks of

the river'. What does it exactly signify?

Thanks in advance,

AS

Dear Anupam-ji,

Maybe you should read

which is an essay on The Absolute As It Is.

Try and ask me further questions if any.

With regards,

namaste Anupamji,Your question -

"Can any one please exactly explain what the tadastha lakshana and

svarupa lakshana mean?"the answer for the above has been quoted from Swami Dayanadaji's Bhagavd Gita home study Vol 2, page no. 451. Chapter 7 of the Gita The two types of LakShaNaasSavrUpa lakShaNathere are two types of lakShaNa; SvarUpa lakShaNa and taTastha lakShaNa. svarUpa lakShaNa reveals the essential nature of domething. for example, if you describe water as H2O, this is svarUpa lakShaNa. water is nothing but htese atoms. SO if you describe water as H2O, you are explaining the svarUpa of water. here the definition of brahman as satyam, jnaanam ananantam brahma, reveals the nature of brahman, the vastu. it negates all attributes and these points out by implication that the vastu is the existence of anything that is existent and is the content of any form of knowledge.taTastha lakShaNathen if for example, you want to indicate a certain hose and do so by saying it is the house on which the crow is sitting, that is taTastha lakShaNa. The crow is not a part of the house even

though it helps you recognise the house. the next time you have to identify hat house you need not wait for the crow to come and sit on it. once you recognise the house, the crow is not a part of the understanding of the house. that is called taTastha lakShaNa.Whenever creation is discussed in the shaastra, Brahman is presented as the cause from which everything has come, by which everything is sutained and into which everything resolves. therfore everything is Brahman. This is taTastha lakShaNapranamsLakshmi
