Guest guest
My salutations to Gangamata on the festive occasion of Ganga Jayanti. My Gangajayanti greetings and subhakankshalu on this sanctified occasion. Gangajal or Ganga water commands high value in Indian culture and Hindu life. No ceremony from birth to death is complete and perfect without gangajal. It is the sacred duty of every individual to visit Varanasi and take a devotional bath in Ganga for purification of life. Ganga Jayanti is celebrated on the Saptami of Sukla Paksha in Vaisakha month every year. According to Brahma Purana, Ganga Saptami, also known as Jahnu Saptami, is said to be day Goddess Ganga descended on to the Earth in the Himalayas. Hence every year the Saptami day of the Shukla Paksha in Vaisakhi month is celebrated as Ganga Saptami or the birthday of Mother Ganga River. In 2009, Ganga Saptami is celebrated on 1st May 2009. In Haridwar, Rishikesh and some other regions, Ganga Saptami is celebrated as the day Ganga River descended from the celestial region onto Lord Shiva's matted locks and then a few drops of Ganga fell from Lord Shiv's head onto the Himalayas. On the occasion of Ganga Saptami several pujas and rituals are offered to Goddess Ganga.I request you to celebrate the Ganga Jayanti festival by listening Gangastakam of Adi Sankaracharya.
