Guest guest
Namaste, I came across the following article in the Times of India. ======================================================== “Way to manage anger – Anger is self-created, says Brahma Kumaris while detailing a method that can help one to deal with anger in everyday life.†“Anger is self-created disturbance. If you stop trying to control other people and situations and accept them exactly as you find them at every moment, you will never get angry again. In the meantime, since most of us have learned the habit of becoming angry, given below is a method to help you deal with anger: Awareness: By becoming more self-aware you will start to notice the anger in its initial stage. For example, irritation is the first symptom that there is a disturbance within your consciousness. When you start to experience the irritation emerging, watch the feeling and then. . . .  Acknowledge Acknowledge that only you are completely responsible for creating your irritation.  Acceptance Don’t struggle with the irritation. Accept its presence. Do not resist it, otherwise it will become stronger and you are likely to suppress it.. But be careful not to feed it.  Ascend Detach yourself from the emotion and just observe it. Remember, you are not your emotions. All emotions die under observation. The creator is not the creation. So don’t identify with the emotion.  Attune The quietest place in a hurricane is the eye of the storm. And so it is with the hurricane of emotion. Learn to go to the centre, which is the heart of your own consciousness. The method to attune or tune-in to the centre of your self is meditation. At the end of the day check yourself to glean how well you implemented these steps in real lie. For a particular situation, while checking could be “I could feel my irritation coming today, so I was aware. I acknowledged the irritation. But instead of accepting I began to resist and suppress it. I understand now why it got worse. Tomorrow I will work on the third step.â€â€ Warm regards,  R. S. Guest guest
Maniji - I agree with Brahma Kumaris assessment. Questions is what is the best way to control anger. Krishna declares - kaama esha krodha esha rajo guna samudbhavaH| ahaaShiNo mahaapaapamaa vidhyenam iha variNaam| Prof. VK's recent post discussed this aspect. In the above sloka - kaama and krodha are pointed out. But by using a single, in the next line, Krishna is pointing that both are the same but one manifesting into the other. We get angry when our desires are not fulfilled. We get frustrated when others do not meet our expectations. In India, I find this more often for some reason, particularly people do not come on time as promised. That shows lack of sensitivity to other people needs. What should we do then? First expect others not to fulfill your expectations. Most important is to follow yourself what you expect others to follow, so that you do not cause the same problem to others. That is essentially causing violence, at mental level. From your point, you expect that others are not going to meet your expectations and therefore lower your expectations first. Have alternate plans giving enough leverage for the shortcomings for others. If it comes to inevitable, accept it as God's wish. If you can correct the sitution, do that too. The prayer of serenity comes to my mind. Most important to control krodha is to bring in Iswara into picture. This is His vibhuuti only and just relax and enjoy the vibhuuti. Once you convert the situation into Lord's vibhuuti, you will start enjoying the presence or his presence. Anger turns into Bhakti and uplifts the mind. This is the most effective path. Every situation becomes a situation to recognize His glory only since He is in all and all is in Him. Hope this helps. Hari Om! Guest guest
Namaste Maniji, I am amazed by the article, you forwarded to the list. As long as something that mature and spiritually wise is published in a big newspaper like the Times of India, there might be hope for the world! I don`t think that something that simple and true would be possible in a big Western newspaper, at least not in Europe. I suppose there is too much arrogance to even adress the problem - except in a very detached scientific way, which suggests that anger is the problem of the others, not the readers themselves. Would you mind telling us the date of publishing if you know it? Thank you Om Shanti Sitara advaitin , " R.S.MANI " <r_s_mani wrote: > > Namaste, > I came across the following article in the Times of India. Guest guest
Suresh Ji - PraNams And others also, When you are responding to a post, please do not include all the previous post - but only that segment to which you are responding so that other readers can follow the argument without reading the whole post again. It will fill the email boxes unnecessarily. The statement you made is what swami Chinmayanadaji says: Disappointments come to those who make appointments. -- But the fact of the life is we cannot but expect when we are acting in the world. The yoga helps in preparing the mind to accept the unexpected in the attitude of prasadabuddhi. Hari Om! Since we were having some discussion on Anger, it appeared relevant and I posted it. TOI daily publishes articles and short essays on spiritual/religious matters under their Column “Speaking Tree†and under “Sacred Page†popular “sayings†covering also psychological points, etc. On alternate days they publish short notes on varied subjects, including health, politics, psychology, religion, philosophy, etc. Hari Om R.S.Mani R.
