'shuddhi' - purification - of the 'antaHkaraNa' (ego-ahaMkAra, chitta-memories,manas-mind, and buddhi-intellect) is to be achieved by the cultivation of 'sAttvika' virtues, and elimination of the 'rAjasika' and 'tAmasika' 'vAsanA'-s (inclinations). Gita has devoted 36+ verses to this end to cover the following aspects - AhAra - 17:8-10 kartA - 18:26-28 karma - 18:23-25 yaj~na - 17:11-13 dAna - 17: 20-22 tapa - 17:5-6, 14-19 tyAga - 18:7-11 dhRRiti - 18:33-35 shraddhA - 17:2-4 buddhi - 18:30-32 j~nAna - 18:20-22 sukha - 18:36-39 Regards, Sunder

My first posting on this subject was related to the possibility of Lord having expectation for result of actions for himself. 'janma karma ca me divyam' excludes Lord from this. While discussing the fruits of actions, that accrue here and after death get mixed up. Chitta Shuddhi is iha-loka-phala. The phala in form of pApa/punya/mixed accures on death of the agent of action - trividhaM phalam karmaNaH aniShTaM ishTaM mishraM ca bhavati pretya atyAginAM - the threefold results of actions --the undesirable, desirable, mixed--accrues after death to those who do not resort to renunciation.(BG 18.12). If someone else had already tread the same journey I wish to undertake owing to which I get a path to travel, it is a benefit accruing to me owing to my punya and my travelling the path is not enjoyed by the former as a fruit of his action. Similarly one gets the benefit of others knowledge thro books written by them; but by my reading the text, no phala accrue to the author. I felt benefit(prayojana) and fruit(phala) got mixed up.
