Namaste All,

In view of recent discussions hoped a little joke won't hurt.

A pair of twins are making time in the womb of their mother after almost eight

and a half months of waiting. They start to get a little anxious about the

forecoming future.

One of them asks the other: " Do you think there is life after birth? "

The other, stopping sucking his thumb, responds: " I don't know, nobody came back

to tell yet "

No-body=in a spirit body,we are told by the spirit world of beings...there is

life after death = no-body...:)

Sureshji,

(continuing the lighter vein... " replying the reply " , in the old

vedantic discussion tradition)

OOOoohh, I see... but I thought that the " spirit world of beings "

implied that there is no life after death because there is no death in

the first place, and why? because there is NO BIRTH in the VERY very

first place either!!!

In a circle, where do you start or end,as its cyclic. The body dies, not the

atma,as its neither beginingless nor endless. As per my understanding of the

Lord's message, thru various avataric manisfestations on sarva lokas....thats why

pithru karyam is adviced by our ancients, even thru a proxy.....as explained by

Mahaswami of Kanchi, thru his epic book 'deivathin kural'.....

so ultimate goal for a spiritual aspirant is=moksham from samsaram=release from

repeated birth & death of bodies, mind & soul....

suresh...

p.s. mouna means=quietness,but i sure do enjoy your messages,thnx...

Very rare indeed to agree in something in these kind of discussions, but I fully

agree with this happy ending. As the poet once said:

" All's well that ends well " !

hare krishna namaskarams

even though a joke carries a deep meaning .neither the babies know from where

they came in to the womb or where afterbirth. well life continues in various

forms and stages and the only solution from this cycle is to get rid of the

vasanas through self knowledge in this life.

may lord krishna bless us all to reach him in this life itself.

Namaste,

Nisargadatta Maharaj's suggestion to read the Gita from the point of view of

Krishna (Krishna Consciousness) is an eye opener...Cheers Tony.

Agreed Tony, and by the way, is there any other position to take, ever, in this

advaita business of Reality?

I meant to say: is there any other position to take, besides this one, ever, in

this advaita business of Reality?

Namaste:

The real question then is " How to read Gita from the point of view of Krishna? "

The answer is quite subtle and Gita suggests:

(1) S (Yes) - Sraddha (Faith and conviction with determination)

(2) S (Yes) - Sadhana (Efforts through Yoga for mind purification)

(3) S (Yes) - Siddhi ( Moksha or liberation)

This may explain why we end our prayers with 3 times " Om Shanthi "

First Om Shanthi to remind Shraddha

Second Om Shanthi to practice Yoga

Final Om Shanthi to recognize the Brahman

Gita in several chapters and verses provide us the clue to acquire the virtues

that will enable us to recognize the Brahman. The ongoing Gita Satsangh on

Chapter 14 provides the list of those virtues through verses # 23 to 25. Lord

Krishna describes the conduct that can be noticeable to anyone through these

verses. One who is indifferent in every situation like a witness to an event and

who is equipoised and undisturbed by any interaction with the three gunas that

might present itself such as happiness or misery, realizes that the gunas

themselves are responsible for the effects. Such a jiva understands by

discriminative reflection that the atma or immortal soul has no connection

whatsoever with the gunas or their effects. Such a jiva is firmly situated and

unwavering.

To whom pleasure and pain are non-different to the jiva who is thus situated

abiding in the atma in one's eternal nature. To such a jiva a clod of earth, a

precious stone and a nugget of gold are all simply manifestations of the same

prakriti or the material substratum pervading physical existence. Such a jiva

considers all of equal worth. Also to whom agreeable and disagreeable things

which are the causes of pleasure and pain are seen as the same. That perfect

Yogi is indifferent to the bestowal of both praise and ridicule. He (she) stays

in the balanced state both in honor or dishonor and treats friend or foe alike.

Those who have transcended the three gunas renounce the rewards of all actions

producing visible or invisible results. They exhibit bhakti or exclusive loving

devotional service to the Supreme Lord.

In conclusion, we should recognize the fact that " All will end well provided we

take all necessary steps and efforts with determination, strong faith and

conviction. "

With my warm regards,

Ram Chandran
