Thanks for all the roles of aachaarya. Now I am really wondering whether I

should be one! Life is peaceful even without all that.

Namaste Sada-ji,

Congratulations to you personally, and reciprocally to all the students

who have studied under you satisfying the condition of 'AchAryopAsanam' as an

attribute of j~nAna (Gita 13:8).

The quotation you had mentioned was:

Achinoti hi shAstrArthAnAcharasthApanAdapi |

svayamAcharate yastu tasmAdAchArya uchyate || Dvayopanishad 1:4

Namaste:

Here are some more explanations on Acharya:

Acharya has different meanings in different contexts:

In general Acharya is a title affixed to the names of learned individuals of

religion and philosophy. In Veda Padasalas (schools specifically established for

teaching the Vedas) those complete the basic course syllabus are awarded with

the title, " Sastrigal. " The title of Achaya is quite parallel to " Sastrigal, "

the first with respect to mastering Vedas and later for mastering Vedanta. The

Indian Society from ancient times refer a guide of religious matters, a founder

and/or leader and any learned person with the title Acharya.

Acharya is also used to address a teacher or a scholar in any discipline to

signify his/her extraordinary scholarship. For example, Bhaskara the great

mathematician was often referred as Bhaskaracharya. During Vedic time period the

best of the Brahmins are often described as Acharyas or Shresthas.

With my warm regards,

Ram Chandran
