Yes, curiosity is part of it, but mainly the attempt to understand vedanta as system of thought for reasons I will explain now. First of all : I am not under the delusion that answers to such questions are needed to realize truth; as you said, Madhavaji they are all about >what happens to the body at the vyavaharika level ... Dennisji, of course your analogy with the snake is absolutely valid. But as you yourself point out in your books: People need these provisional " truths " . As you know I have a lot of talks with spiritually interested people and meanwhile quite some of them know that I come from advaita vedanta. If they ask me about it, I would like to reply on the level, they pose their questions. This means that I am very interested in vedanta as a philosophy, encompassing all levels. And it also means that I post questions to the list about things that are ultimately irrelevant. I just don't know where else to ask. I am well aware that it would be much better to refer people to such a propper vedanta teacher. But first of all there are none German speaking around. And secondly people turn to me for their own reasons and they do not want to be refered (believe me, I have tried!). So, even if there is no ultimate answer to those questions, not even on vyavaharika level, I am still interested in the different viewpoints that exist in this respect. And I hope that I am not stealing anybodies time here. For myself I have to say that these purely philosophical musings are very good for sharpening the intellect and developing more viveka.
