Guest guest
Namaskaarams to all... Can we get initiated into another mantra while we are already practising one mantra? The problem is, I have been desperately waiting to get initiated into the Narayana mantra for the past 3yrs and that too by ChinnaJeeyar Swami. But last year, i got initiated into the Gowri Panchakshara mantra unexpectedly by Divine Grace. Swamiji is arriving at our place on the 14th of this month and initiating seekers into the Narayana mantra on the 15th. Can i take up the initiation? Kindly help me out of this problem and please forgive me for my ignorance. Regards... Chandana.
Guest guest
Namaste dear Chandanaji: For those who are not familiar with those mantras, here are some brief statements: Panchakshara Mantra: The holy word chant to worship Shiva is made of five letters and is popularly called Panchakshara- " Na Ma Si Va ya " . In this popular stotra each of these letters is considered as Shiva and He is praised for His great qualities. Narayana Mantra: The simplest and most effective is " Om Namo Narayana, " a solution to Narayana (Mahavishnu). Various other forms of Narayana Mantras are also available. In the Puranic stories, the divine singer/devotee Naradha used to visit both Kailas (Shiva's abode) and Vaikundam (Naryana's abode). Whenever he went to Shiva he used to chant – " Om Nama Sivayaya. " Whenever he went to Vaikundam, he chanted " Om Namo Narayana. " Symbolically, Naradhaji wants us to tell that devotion to the Lord (name and form are symbolic) is the key to spiritual progress. Mantra initiation symbolically motivates a seeker to spirituality – a devotional form of meditation. The following link to an article by Swami Sivananda Maharaj may throw further lights on the question: http://www.sivananda.org/teachings/philosophy/spiritual_instructions.html Swami Sivanandaji through this article provides some important instructions for those who want to be more spiritual. Swamiji rightly says that for Japa (repetition of mantra), the choice is up to the devotee. If you get peace by both Panchaksara and Narayana Mantra, I do not see any problem. Please note that this is only my personal opinion and it is up to you decide. With my warm regards, Happy Deepavali! Guest guest
Respected Sir, My namaskaarams to you. Thank you very much for the informative reply. That sounds quite convincing. The scriptures hold that both Narayana and Shiva are one and the same. I am initated into the Gowri Panchakshara mantra and it contains a few beeja aksharas before the main mantra too. I have unexpectedly received it by the grace of the Divine Mother and it has been hardly a year since I have received it. I just fear that the mantra might lose its effectiveness if I take up another mantra deksha. Kindly let me know your opinion about the same and please forgive me for my ignorance. With Best Regards... Guest guest
Chandanaji - PraNAms Ram has already responded to you. My suggestion is when you meet Shreeman Narayana Jiir - talk to him and discuss with him. If you have faith in him, you take his advice. But do not keep switching swamiis and mantras - stick to one that is dear to you - ananaya chinta is required when you meditate on your chosen mantra. All forms are god, but mind needs a particular form for devotion and meditation until your mind can go beyond the forms. Sreeman Narayana jiir will insist that you take up narayana mantra - since you have faith in him, follow his advice - Otherwise it is useless to reference to him. By the by when and if you meet him, please convey my namaskaaras to Him. Hari Om! Guest guest
Dear Chandana, The gauri panchakshari mantra is enough for suvasinis (married ladies) as it bestows marital bliss, good health & luck to Husband & Children and last but not the least chitta shuddi to the suvasini to take up further sadhana. This mantra is iha-para saukhya dayini to the suvasinis. Infact, here in Andhra Pradesh during marriage, at the time of mangala sutra dharana, there is a ritual performed by the girl called " Gauri Puja " and during the process she is initiated with Gauri Panchakshari mantra by the purohita. Now, why only Gauri mantra why not any other? Because, at the time of marriage, there are mantras that are invoked on bride & bridegroom. Bride is the form of Lakshmi & Bridegroom is the form of Narayana. Both are Lakshmi-Narayana Swarupa. Being the form of Lakshmi-Narayana, whom do they worship? Naturally, the divine couple-the adi-dampati Siva & Parvati who are the epitome of an IDEAL MARRIED LIFE. Hence, a brahmana should first get initiated in Siva Panchakshari mantra after the investiture of sacred thread & Siva Panchayatana worship and his consort in Gowri Panchakshari. If the purohita by any chance did not initiate the girl with this mantra, it is the duty of the husband to initiate his wife in this mantra. If you are a smarta and belong to sankara sampradaya, then take the initiation from a guru who belong to the same tradition. Initiation from Jeer, i believe, require tapta-mudra-ankita of sankha & chakra, which if undergone by a smarta who is a follower of Sankara Sampradaya, would have to undergo prayaschita kandas and has been prohibited by Smartas. But, if you are a srivaishnava, then pl. go ahead with Ashtakshari diksha. jagatah pitarou vande parvati parameshwarou... regs, sriram advaitin , Chandana Kesanupalli <kesanupalli_chandana wrote: > > Respected Sir, > > My namaskaarams to you.
