Guest guest
Dear Members, My term as Chief Moderator comes to an end on Dec 31. I am grateful to all of you for the co-operation extended to me. Shyam-ji, one of the scholarly members of this List, will be the moderator for 2010. I, along with the other Moderators, request you to extend your full co-operation and support to him. A brief bio of Shyam-ji is given below in his own words. From this you can see that he exemplifies the Sanskrit saying, “vidyA dadAti vinayam”, which means—Learning fosters humility. “I was born and raised in Mumbai. By profession I am a physician. I currently reside in the US. My initial exposure to Vedanta was through the writings of Swami Chinmayananda-ji and subsequently I have been an ardent follower and devotee of my Guru Swami Paramarthananda-ji from Chennai. I have also greatly benefited from the teachings of Swami Dayananda-ji by constant and repeated exposure to his books, and tapes, as well as the writings of His Holiness the ParamAcharya(MahaPeriyavA) of Kanchi. I consider them both my teachers as well in every sense of the term. I maintain a blog www.adi-shankara.org which is devoted to spreading the message of Vedanta in my limited capacity”—Shyam Best wishes and Happy New Year to all of you. S.N. Guest guest
May I also extend my gratitude to Shastriji for his willingness to act as chief moderator and to Shyamji for his willingness to take over that role for 2010! Guest guest
Dear Sastri-ji: Thank you for the wonderful and uplifting service you have provided to the Advaitin Sangha. I have always found your posts to be clear, concise, and logical and immensely enjoy reading your thoughts and studying them. Because of the depth of your knowledge Sastri-ji, you are able to provide summaries of vast literatures which are of great value to novices like myself who do not have much scholarly background. One of your article that I put on my site called, “Introduction to Advaita Vedanta” makes for beautiful reading and is a short summary of Advaita Vedanta. How I love reading that even now! I think all Hindus should read this summary to give them a background of their traditions. introduction-to-advaita-vedanta-by-sri-sn-sastri/ Of course, you have such wonderful works and books and articles on your site that all of these cannot be mentioned in this short note of appreciation. If time allowed for extra service, I would put more of your articles Sastri-ji, Professor Krishnamurthy’s articles, Sada-ji’s articles, Shyam-ji’s articles, Ram-ji’s articles and all the wonderful scholars and mentors here too many to mention and I apologize if I am not able to mention all. I thank you Sastri-ji and everyone here who contributes such extraordinary wisdom and knowledge of the Vedas here. Although I am not able to follow everything all the way, you have all helped me appreciate in more depth what I am able to follow. If I can be of service in the future, please let me know. Guest guest
Pranams Thank you everyone for your warm words of welcome both on and off the list. It is indeed a formidably tall order, to take on a responsibility that rested with a spiritual giant Shir Shastri-ji. I appreciate the faith reposed in me by his good-self and others. I want to join others in sincerely expressing my humble gratitude to Shri Shastr-ji for all the guidance he provided us and am hoping will continue to provide us for many years to come. My primary focus for 2010 will be to cover a portion of the chatusutri - the 1st 4 sutras of the Brahmasutra bhashya - arguably the most important, authentic and significant, of all of Bhagwan Shankara's commentaries. In this effort I hope to receive input from all the esteemed scholars in this august forum. I shall seek the advice of senior members of this forum to see if there are other initiatives for 2010 that might help increase the value of this e-satsanga to its hundreds of silent members. If any of you have suggestions or recommendations, please contact us either through the list or off-line should you wish to remain anonymous. Guest guest
praNAms Hare Krishna First of all my hearty congratulations to Sri Shyamprabhuji on becoming the chief moderator of this august forum. I wish him all the best in his new endeavour. I wish respected shAstri prabhuji could have continued to head this group for some more time....No need to mention Sri Sastri prabhuji is one among very few members in this forum, who did bhAshya shAnti & vedAdhyayana in a bonafide & orthodox traditional institution of advaita. He is an authority on vEda, uttara & pUrvamimAmasa, vyAkaraNa & dharma shAstra. We need the guidance & direction of 'mAhA vidvans' at the top of the order. I dont know why there is strict only one year tenure for the chief moderator post ?? Why dont we extend this tenure to the deserved pundits?? I humbly request the group of moderators to have a look at this issue. Hari Hari Hari Bol!!! bhaskar
Guest guest
Shyamji - PraNAms Long time ago I transcribed the first 5 sutras essentially transcribing Swami Paramarthanandaji talks. They are stored in the archives under Brahmasuutras. Please check them also as you write on the sutras. One of my projects in mind is write the comparative analysis sutra by sutra of Bhagavaan Shankara and Bhagavaan Ramanuja - will leave that to HIM along with so many others- to do done - list.
