Guest guest
Dear Tanya Ji, Namaste. I second Sri Sastri ji and add one more thing. Om is both a symbol for Brahman and also Brahman Itself. With regards, Anupam. > Dear Tanya-ji, > You are absolutely right. Om is the essence of all the vedas. > > Best wishes, > > S.N.Sastri > Namaste. The Mandukya Upanishad commences with the declaration: Chapter I – Agama Prakarana (The Chapter based on Vedic Testimony) //I. Harih Aum! AUM, the word, is all this, the whole universe. A clear explanation of it is as follows: All that is past, present and future is, indeed, AUM. And whatever else there is, beyond the threefold division of time—that also is truly AUM. // Shankaracharya clarifies:// As all these objects that are indicated by names are non-different from the names, and as names are non-different from Om, so Om is verily all this....the past, the present and the future...is but Om. ..and whatever else there is that is ...not limited by time..that too is verily Om.// Thus, the Mandukya Upanishad presents Om as the essence of the created universe. The Upanishad shows how Om is the essence of the universe as also how Om constitutes the 'name' of the universe. The 'rule' Shankaracharya points out is: the 'named' is non-different from the 'name', as per the vAchArambhaNa Shruti. Thereby the entire universe is reduced to an appearance, negated and Brahman/Atman is retained as the residual unnegatable entity. All this is done by the Upanishad itself. In this way the Upanishad itself is the 'commentary' to Om, the essence of the created world. Om Tat Sat
