Guest guest
How to know that IU talks only about Jnana and not Karma? Is there any general guideline to distinguish between them? Yes. To find out the intended of any statement or a verse, we need to examine six insignias of the statement. This process is called taatparya-nichyayaH or " ascertainment of the intended meaning " of the statement. The six insignias are: upakrama-upasamhaarau, abhyasa, apurvata, phalam, arthavaadaH ca upapatti, lingam taatparya nischaye. That is: When analyzing the subject matter, we have to see, 1) How it starts and how it ends 2) What matter is repeated at intervals 3) How that matter can not be achieved by any other means 4) What purpose does the subject matter serve 5) What is being praised in the statements 6) What is the conclusion one can derive using the reasoning. So, by applying all the above six insignias, we can prove that the IU is jnanaparaa eva, that is it talks about Jnana only, not about karma. Let us examine how these six insignias apply to IU and arrive at the conclusion logically (in the next post) With regards, Tanya.
