Shri V. Subrahmanian writes:

Gaudapada's Signature in Shankara Bhashya

" Among some scholars who have studied the Advaita works there is apparently a

view that the Advaita that Gaudapadacharya taught in the Mandukya KaarikA-s is

of a different genre from what Shankaracharya expounded in His Bhaashya

literature. This view presumably holds that the Advaita found in the KArikA-s is

`primitive, extreme' and that Shankara sought to tone down and refine that in

His BhAshya-s. That such a view is not founded on facts is evident to someone

who has undertaken the study of the BhAshyas under a traditional Master. In the

sequel is presented evidence from Shankaracharya's prasthAnatraya BhAshya to

prove that the so-called `hallmarks' of Gaudapadacharya,

`ajAtivAda' or the doctrine of no-creation and `mAyAmayatva' or the illusory

nature of the jiva-jagat combine are happily present in Shankaracharya's

commentaries. "
