It never ceases to amaze me what war brings out in the character of men (and women). In the midst of so much death and negative energy the most selfless acts of humanity also occur, the type which 'hero' seems such a feeble word to describe a noble action. Many might not see that as noble, but the thing is, when facing death in the face most cannot even cope with minute by minute coherent thoughts, especially when fear is dominating the situation. But to look beyond one's own death and fear, to consider the consequences and emotional/spiritual well being of others is more than noble. There's much more that reincarnation implicates than just 'who was I before' and 'who will I be again'--the manner in which a person dies has much to do with the condition of the next beginning. And how we each start a life impacts multiple existences and even the history of mankind, in varying degrees. Those kind of things are quite a ways beyond a man's sight when he's looking into the face of death, and that's why a story like that truly awes me. Humans can fly just as high as they can sink low. love~annie
