Guest guest
Namaste, This is quite a common misunderstanding of Vedantic teachings, one cannot say 'Hindu' or Indian because of the variety. Being disatisfied with this life in not anymore negative, than preferring to be married then single. The whole premise it to withdraw or reverse the process of incarnation. To withdraw the senses and constituents back to their source. This means abandoning attachments. This is not negative. When I withdrew from smoking, drinking and eating meat, it was painful in a way but one comes through it. I am still a recovering alcoholic and no doubt always will be, but it is a happier life without the baggage of that attachment. Withdrawal symptoms, cold turkey etc are perhaps painful but not negative, or escapist. People are happy with attachments the same way an alcoholic or any other attachement condition is regarded as pleasant. It is a temporary thing which in essence is a downer. If life were not a joy between two griefs and based on dukkha it may be different but it cannot be. If one is happy completely in life without being realised then one is only a bird in a golden cage. One must remember the interpolation is the ego and thought, one may wish to stay a child but one has to grow up. The happiest person in life is the Mukta who sees it all as one, and problems and attachments are water off a duck's back. Of course we want to stop thought. Not to would be like a prisoner not wanting parole for freedom from his enforced attachment. In fact some become so attached they commit a crime to go back. Vedantic thought is about negation of the unreal and realisation of the real. Escapism is not having the will to drop one's attachments.....ONS...Tony.
