The site is very much under development – so, keep checking for regular additions and updates – it will grow large and quickly. In the `Books and DVDs' section, the website is distributing 2 books and 1 DVD about Arunachala. The DVD `Juggernaut', financed by the Dutch Film Fund and produced entirely overseas, is the most devotional and beautiful film available on Arunachala. As well as selling online, The Foundation hopes to develop sales of books, DVDs etc (related to Arunachala) through the domestic market – primarily Madras and Bangalore. The Foundation is also committed to serving `ordinary' pilgrims who congregate to Arunachala at `full moon' by making available affordable mementoes and souvenirs. In this respect we will produce various items, the first of which being high-quality, low price (approx. Rs.20/-) wall posters of Arunachala - (which will be offered on sale on the Pradakshina Route during Full Moons). At this time nothing of the sort is available and if a pilgrim wants to take home a nice picture of Arunachala for wall or puja room, they have to fork out `middle-class Indian or foreign rates' for high-class photographs costing Rs.200/- plus. Robert Butler, famous for his translations of ancient Tamil literature into the English language, will collaborate with the Foundation in helping develop a complete archival record of poem, prose and hymns (originally written in Tamil) for our website. This will be of immense value in maintaining and recording ancient Arunachala literature. On the early morning of August 8th, there was a fire walking ceremony at the Arunachaleswarar Temple. The ceremony happens at night (12p.m.-2p.m) on one particular day during the Adi month in Tamil Nadu. Before the fire-walk there was a very beautiful abhishekam and puja, dedicated to the Divine Mother. Afterwards the statue of the Mother was brought out to preside over the walk. The ceremony is something to do with a declaration of faith in the protective power of the Mother. We would welcome help and support from friends of Arunachala in continuing to develop the website and the work of The Arunachala Samudra Foundation. In this respect would appreciate all offerings.
